At least not yet.
As you already know, brown coolant is usually a sign of engine oil leaking into the radiator coolant. Could be a gasket leak such as the intake or a head gasket, or the oil cooler if your car is equipped.
You said the warning light was on, was the radiator coolant level low ?

Hey Stephen, Thanks for the reply mate. yes it was low when i checked it. the thing is it was fine yesterday when i parked it. then this morning there was a puddle under my car. nothing to major, but still. I am slightly concerned that the gasket has gone otherwise why would there have bee excess coolant. does it seem strange to you that it would happen over night to you? thanks for your help

You say it was fine the day before, but how long had it been since you actually looked at the coolant before the light came on ? The problem could have been developing for several days. Whatever the leak is, may have reached the point of an external leak once you turned off the hot engine.

SOURCE: Milky oil in water but car runs fine

This is classic case failed head gasket. You changed your oil 4 years ago?

There is more to this story I think. Maybe you changed the transmission oil 4 years ago and and now you have water in the trans? Not good. You have trans oil in the radiator? Not good. You have engine oil in the radiator? Not good. You have water in the engine? Not good. You have engine and trans oil in the radiator? Doubble not good.

You should have a reputable shop take a look at your 22 year old car to see if it is salvagable.

SOURCE: Audi A4 2.5 V6 TDI - Creamy grey coolant in expansion tank

Sounds like blown head gasket (or worse) still to me.
Remove oil filler cap and look for grey oil.
Never use water these days but special coolant. Water makes vapour spots and cause block cracks, worse then blown gaskets!!!
vapour does not cool very well.
Look like you have cracks already.
Take a compression test if possible. But might not show op at that temperature.
The gauge indication troubles me.

Why would my Pontiac start with a loud rattling noise?

Brown Milky Oil sounds like your head gasket has gone and coolant water is mixing with engine oil. Unless you have an oil cooler, it may be from there.

You can locate the rattling if you get someone to start it with the hood up.

Hi i bought 2002 nissan sentra ..previous owner replaced head gasket ,water pump.thermostat ...car was running good for a week then sudeny no hot air inside(blows but cold) and 10 minutes later...

Thermostat is the wrong temperature range for the vehicle or it is installed backwards. It is opening too soon and not allowing the vehicle engine to come up to operating temperature soon enough. Have system checked, replace thermostat with correct temperature for vehicle

Water in engine? please help!

Pls make the following checks with the engine off and cold,
1)Take the radiator cap off.
2) Make sure your hands are clean and dry.
3)Put your index finger into the radiator cap hole for 1 second.
4)Remove your finger and check it for oil.
5)If you get oil on your finger your cylinder head gasket has blown .
6) You must then drain the engine of its oil and water mixture and replace the cylinder head gasket, dont drive the vehicle for it's just gonna make the repairs more expensive for you.

Car is running hot and oil is white/brown color when i pull the dipstick

If the oil is white/brown.. Then that means that water got into your oil somehow. If it's running hot then make sure you have coolant in the coolant resivor.

I have a 97 Chevy Lumina. It has 276,*** miles on it. I bought it used 4 months ago. It was running excellent then the service engine soon light, low coolant light, and change oil soon light started coming...

The fact that the oil was low would not be from the oil pump, but from wear in the engine. If it is not smoking when you start it or as you drive, you can probably keep it running by just keeping the oil level checked at each fuel fill-up. As for the car shutting off, you didn't say if the engine seized or got real hot. A low oil pressure problem should have triggered a warning light before the problem got to the point where you lost the engine.

If the car ran after you added the oil, you got lucky and need to always check it.

Overheating, water in oil

You have a bad head gasket. You will not know how bad the damage is until the engine is disassembled. Chances are, a head has warped though, and will need to be machined.

I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.

Engine oil dipstick shows water and rust mixed in with oil

Everyone always jumps to head gaskets. There are plenty of MINOR things that can be looked at first.
The Volvo 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 Inline 5 Cylinder dipstick tube is known to develop a large amount of condensationin winter months and stop and go driving. What you see on your dip stick is possibly just condensation. Take off your oil cap and look under the cap and inside the valve cover. Is there any thick foamy oatmeal like substance or noticeable amounts of water? If your oil was saturated with coolant, you would be able to see it up there too. Check your coolant for oil. Volvo coolant is typically brown to orange, however make sure there is no sludge. Start the car with the cap off and keep an eye out for alot of bubbles. A large amount of bubbles is a sign of a bad head gasket. A couple here and there is just air in your cooling system.
Coolant, Transmission fluid, and Oil have several places they can mix. If you have a turbocharged Volvo, the seals in the turbo can go bad and cause a mix of oil and coolant. Your transmission cooler is also in your radiator, and if it cracks your transmission fluid and coolant can mix. I believe turbo models have an oil cooler built into the radiator as well.
Overall if your car sounds fine, you dont see oatmeal, your not using coolant and oil in excessive amounts, dont have white smoke, and your turbo isnt whining you probably just have condensation in your dip stick. If you are overly concerned you can send a sample of your oil to a lab and have it tested for traces of coolant. Headgaskets rarely fail on Volvo's, even the old ones....I have seen many that have gone to replace them have not found a failed gasket and end up finding a bad transmission cooler or a bad turbo.
