We have a 1995 caprice classic. It will go in reverse and drive but once the car gets warmed up it will not move. Do you think the transmission is out completely or could it just be a filter or something else. Thanks Debra
Scrap it. Transmission is almost dead. This car isn't worth the $3000 to fix it( not even a $1000 for a used transmission). Not to mention the other things that are wrong with it.
It could be:
1. Low on fluid or
2. plugged filter in transmission so have them checked first, but it is very likely the transmission is on its last legs.
I would recommend a good local independent shop do a transmission service including a new filter and an analysis of the oil that comes out of the transmission. Their findings on this step will help with the planning for next step, but from here it is a local trip car. The car is 20 years old how many miles?
Unfortunately, this transmission will need a rebuild. this is much more than a filter or seal. what has happened here is, the gear ratio is all out of whack.

I think the response was very quick. We are now in the process of getting the car repaired. Thank you so much for your help.
