Couldn't imagine it to come loose. Someone must have been working in that area at some time.I'm sure a clamp would be used. Can't tell you, just say a Prayer and allow the Lord to inform you. It's worked many times for me!

SOURCE: need to replace fuel filler neck on 1999 dodge dakota

I just replaced one today. I found this post looking for an answer myself and ended up just going for it. The metal at the end of the plastic hose is a clamp that was compressed with a special tool. Here is what I did.

I cut the compression clamp open with a Dremel and a cut off wheel. Be careful not to cut through to the plastic. I did a little at a time the whole length of the clamp and cut through only at the end about 3mm. I then put a screwdriver in there any was able to pry it up and break the clamp in half since I had cut most of the way through it. Take your time.

With the clamp off it will still be hard to get the metal tubes out. I had badly rusted tubes so I broke them off near the plastic tube and bent the end inside the plastic a little with a hammer. I was then able to pull the vent tube out. On the fill tube I bent it to move it away from the plastic enough to get tin snips in there. I cut it and could then get the tube out.

It looked like there was some kind of rubber ring on the tubes. I used some sealer on the tube when I slid it in the plastic and used regular hose clamps. Make them very tight. You don't want an air leak.

SOURCE: my 2004 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with a hemi 5.7 will

my 2004 dodge ram 1500 2x2with a hemi 5.7 will not accept fuel.As soon as i start to fill it backs up the filler and stops the pump.the only way i can fill the tank is to hold the fuel nozzel out of the hole ans slowly shoot the fuel into the filler tube. This is not only unsafe for my wife and kids but very time consuming.replaced fuel fill tube already and had breather tube blownout and scoped by a mechanic. He now tells me i need a new $500 gas tank.Is this something i can have the dealership fix for free?

Fuel tanks usually aren't a regular shape but are designed to fit unusual and difficult spaces and to make matters worse the filler pipe rarely enters the tank in the most sensible place that is the highest point - in fact the fuel filler pipe often enters the tank in the worst place which is near the bottom or at least well below the fuel level.

Adding fuel therefore creates a pressure above the rising fuel that soon forces a bubble back through the filler pipe and a pair of wet shoes is the result...

Manufacturers recognise this problem and usually provide a vent pipe to ensure mess-free filling. This is generally a small bore nylon or steel pipe from the highest point on the fuel tank leading to somewhere high in the filler neck so when the fuel cap is fitted it still becomes a sealed unit. Some manufacturers have provided a premium solution and placed the vent pipe internally.

When wet shoes result from filling the tank it means the vent for whatever reason isn't there or it is blocked. This sometimes happens when the tank has been out and refitted carelessly.

Why is fuel spitting out of filler neck on a 2011 jeep wrangler long before tank is full?

Lots of vehicle fuel tanks are shaped to fit the available space and often the filler doesn't feed into the top of the tank therefore fuel spitting from the filler neck would be a feature - except these days most manufacturers fit a vent hose from the top of the tank to the filler neck causing most such vehicles to fill cleanly.

If your fuel tank has such a vent hose it is probably blocked - perhaps was trapped during the fitting of the fuel tank.

. Discovered that the tank vent pipe was corroded and leaking the engine light is on. Is this because a sensor is detecting the holed vent ? Are the vent pipe and the filler pipe a single unit ?

The fuel tank is not holding pressure or vacuum because of leak,on the filler pipe or another leak. The computer cannot hold the tank vacuum for the specified time so pops the light on.Most fuel filler pipes and vent tube for filling are one unit.

How to replace seal on the fuel tank that filler tube goes into on 1997 Lincoln town car

You need to remove the filler neck, it has screws I think inside the gas fill door. Pull it out of the fuel tank, go under the car and remove the old rubber donut seal where tube enters the fuel tank, spray some car cleaner on the rubber and as quickly as possible insert the tank fill tube and put it all back together.

How to replace fuel tank filler tube?

Brother John, you've removed as much as you can for access to the filler. Remove the hose clamps/bands that secure the fill tube and vent tube and then remove the screws around the gas cap that secure the fill tube to the body. With the gas cap off, go below and pull the hose and filler neck down and work the hoses lose with a pair of channel lock pliers and sticking a screwdriver between the metal tube and hose to break the seal. Put on the new filler neck and stick it back up in the body and put the screws back in. THEN put the hose clamps back up and tighten them, put the gas cap back on and your done.

The hose is on the side of the gas cap and it runs down to the bottom of the quarter panel. When I filled the gas tank up, gas comes out of this hose. We just had the fuel pump replaced. Its not leaking...

There are normally two hose lines from the fuel filler that run to the tank. The larger one carries the fuel from the nozzle to the tank. The smaller one is a vent hose that allows vapors to leave the top of the tank while filling. These vapors come back to the nozzle area and can be vented and/or collected by the nozzle depending upon air pollution standards in your area. If your second hose is running to the bottom of the quarter panel, it is probably the vent hose that may not have been reconnected at the top of the tank when the fuel pump was replaced. The fuel running down there is from kickback fuel at the time the pump shuts off. The real problem is that the vent line is open on top of the tank and when the tank is full, that can allow vapors and fuel to escape out of there and it could contact hot exhaust areas - a major fire or explosion hazard. Have this inspected and repaired IMMEDIATELY.

When pumping gas in a 2000 hyundai it the nozzle keeps cutting off . it take forever to fill the gas tank up

i`m guessing that you have tried to install the nozzle in different places in the filler neck while filling the car.if this you have tried then you may have a bad vent valve that is not working properly causing excess air pressure in the fuel tank shutting off the nozzle.have a shop check this out for you.

Takes forever to put fuel in

Check for a crimped fuel vent hose on the filler neck. System is
a closed type for emissions but there is a vent hose running from
the tank back up close to the fill spout. You will have to get under the truck to check. This hose runs over the top of the frame to the top of the fuel tank. For easier repairs than dropping the tank remove the bed bolts on the drivers side and loosen the 2 on the
passenger side. Remove the screws holding the filler neck in and
have someone help you lift the rear body drivers side. You can block this up for easier access to the top of the tank. Also easiest
way to replace fuel pump when needed
