Car started losing power, died and now wont turn on. Engine light was on for about a week before, checked at O'Rielly's and the computer said catalyst below efficiency (bank 2). Just before it died it started bucking a little bit, stopped doing it so much when the air/heat was on, as soon as I turned it off it started bucking again. Ran for about ten miles like that then it started getting worse as I got closer to home, even with the air blowing, then it died at a stop sign and hasn't started since. No abnormal noises were/are coming from the car.
When was it tested at oreillys? was it before it died and failed to restart? if so you could have more than one problem the scanned problem is definitely an O2 sensor but the failing to restart could be from many other reasons. replace the o2 sensor see if it refires. if it does not there are 3 basic things to follow when a vehicle fails to start. does it get a spark, does it get air and does it get fuel. figure out what it is not getting and investigate why and you will find your answer.
SOURCE: Oil light comes on, car loses all power...
havent seen this problem on any yet. make sure who ever changed the oil used 5W20 the hemis are very picky
SOURCE: i bought a 96 dodge
It sounds like the car was ran out of oil.The engine bearings and crankshaft journal are probably scarred. The noise you are hearing is more than likely a piston rod slapping around about to break loose from the crankshaft. So,yes the engine is toast...Sorry..Good Luck!!!
SOURCE: Car losing power and turning off
if your car is 2003+ try turning the key to run (but not crank) then to acc. 3 times and the engine codes will show up on the odometer, then you can look up what those codes are to help diagnose some of the problems.
