sounds like the reverse clutch is shot, pull the pan and look for allot of grey material in the pan, some is normal but a big pile is trouble, if it is not to bad change the fluid and filter and use the new DEXRON 6 fluid, it is compatable with all GM automatics, keep your fingers crossed and it should give you a little while longer before u need an overhaul..

Check the Vehicle Velocity Sensor (V V S)-(Speed Sensor) or the wire harness to the VVS. IF the ECM is not getting a signal from the V V S, the PCM can not give the signal to switch gears. The V V S is on the drivers side of the end ot the transmission that is held on by one bolt. Best thing to do is to have the truck scanned at Auto Zone for a DTC code and to confirm that the V V S has gone bad and they can give you the step by step instruction to replacing the sensor and takes about 15 min to do. Good luck and keep me posted. Keep an eye on the transmission fluid, make sure you don't run the transmission to hard and burn it out over a $40.00 sensor which is better then $1,800 for a transmission replacement.

I have the same problem, ALL forward gears apply and pull hard. When placed in reverse it feals like it is engaging but won't pull. Probable cause low fluid pressure. I found several resources that said to try Lucas trans fix or remove the reverse check ball from the valve body. As soon as I find out which check ball is the rev. I will try it and let you know. If you can help let me know.

Look under the truck and check for loose or broken wires leading to the transmission, if this looks ok you probably have an issue with the transmission electrol control module, these units are about $100.00 used from a junk yard and you will be taking a chance since this may not solve the problem, make sure the transmission filter is not clogged or fluid level is low.
