The key is inserted but will not turn to start the car. Tires are not locked and car is in park.
Be sure its all the way in park or try neutral.Its possible that security system does not recognize the key. Is security light flashing or on steady? Shut all doors and windows,trunk,hood, turn off all accessory's,roll down drivers window, turn key off and remove for at least 1 minute, insert key into ignition, try to start leaving key to run position for 20 minutes, turn key to off,wait 15 seconds, try to start again leaving key to run, wait 20 minutes, turn key off,wait 15 seconds, try to start, This should relearn key code. It may relearn after 1 learn cycle and start if system is ok. Hope this helps and that the weather is dry and warm for this procedure!.. i think this may solve ur problem..

I have a 2006 chevy lt monte carlo and i had an issue where i could start the car but but the gear would get stuck and i had to push really hard to put my car in drive reverse etc. and the key did not want to come out of the ignition. Turns out i had spilled some kinda of sugar drink in the middle part and it leaked down to the bottom of the gears and it just needed to be cleaned really good with wd40, and water. just thought i'd share this in case anybody else ever has the same problem

Is the battery dead or disconnected? I've had that problem in another Chevy. With battery disconnected it would not return to the off position and allow me to remove the key.

Ok well the car does not allow me to power anything. The ignition is stuck in the off position and I can not shift it into any other gear other than park,Ive tried it all. It is raining, and I turned off the car while the wipers were on, if that helps.I have tried to turn and lock the steering wheel and all it does it turn the wheels like as if has no power steering.

The steering wheel is not locked.. =0(.. I just dont want to buy a new cylinder if I dont have too.. I think its the car not recognizing its in park..
i have the same problemb if you figured it out please help me
