S80 Saloon Boot Lid will not go into shut position.

I have opened my boot to replace brake light bulb.upon replacing the faulty bulb I proceeded to shut the boot lid.The boot latch mechanism is in the open position constantly.I have tried the keys to close it manually, and this is not having any effect.I have checked the fuse for the boot lid, and that seems OK.Can anyone suggest what the fault may be.

SOURCE: How do I replace the brake light bulb in a volvo

This would be a bulb problem. You can open up your trunk, pull back the liner, and find the screws that hold the lens on, remove the screws, pry off lens and then push in and turn counter clockwise to remove the bulb. Then the new bulb pushes in and turns clockwise to lock in place.

SOURCE: my 2001 S60 trunk lid

The trunk lid closes and hits the rubber bumpers on either side of the trunk. This is more than likely what is causing the trunk not to close. When they get old then they get hard. Especially in cold weather. You can adjust the bar on the trunk latch. That will let the trunk close.

What can cause the both brake lights to fail in the trunk lid of 2018 Ford Taurus Limited AWD?

Hi, I take it that you have already checked the fuse, could be the brack light switch wich is by the brake pedle , but what I would check as it does seem to be a problem on alot of cars these days, where the wireing goes from the boot into the trunk lid there is a rubber boot, inside where the boot is opend and closed the wires inside the rubber boot brake,so I would check there first, make sure you check eaach wire verry carefully, hope this was some help all the best.

Changed the side repeater bulb on our VOLVO S80 140 4DR SALOON 2435CC PETROL AUTO 4SP(2000) but still getting the message bulb failure position light.

Its just a tail light not the repeater bulb check all bulbs you can turn the car on and just pull out the bulb holder and see which one is out have someone push on the brakes also and put the car in reverse. Also sometime the connections that the bulbs go in need cleaned. If you clean it just remove the whole holder just by squeezing the connector that hooks into the holder. This is a common issue. But more then likely it just the bulb.

What is bulb position light failure? what is whistling noise mean once the car warms up

Bulb position light failure indicates that you have a burned bulb somewhere around the car. Check all of them. Brake lights, parking lights, flasher and so and so.

This is a very common problem with Volvo.

You could alo get this problem eventhough no bulb is burned. If it's the case, test each bulb contact in their socket playing with them. Make sure you put some electric grease on contact replacing the bulbs.

Check if there were a recall for your specific vehicule and if it has been done on yours. I know that during the years, some recalls were adressing this type of problem.

Regarding whistling noise during warm up try to remove oil filling cap during engine is running. if the noise stops it's probably the PCV that is blocked and need to be replaced. If it doesn't fix it, let us know and we will go more in depth.
Hope it helped

Bulb failure position light

most likely your brake light. Also if no brake lights are out, volvo is notorious for putting the wrong bulbs in from the factory. If they work take them out, if they have an orange bottom inside the buld replace the bulbs. I used to be a volvo tech. I would replace both so you dont run into this problem again
