no the battery seemed to be fine at the time the lights were strong all the dials were clear....and bright , but since trying to get it started the battery has now started to weaken

  • rossturner Feb 11, 2009

Well i did try and jump it from another car, but it seemed to drain my battery......just don't seem to have any luck really

well it turns out that the earth leading from the relay for the glow plugs had broken away, once re-attached works fine and dandy

    Hello.

    I have the same problem.

Just changed the gearbox and went to start her up after the change and

    Nothing.

I have the first red light come up on the dash for the forst turn of the key but then at the 2nd click the yellow glow plug light isn't coming on and then if i try to turn the car over it wont even do that, the battery light comes on on the 3rd click,

The battery is fine ect so im wondering if the glow plug box has failded or a broken cable?

Remove and clean the battery connectors and posts with wire brush and baking soda and water if possible, then reattach cables after brushing/cleaning, tighten and try again.

Then it did crank over a bit? Could be burnt fusible link in the glow circuit. It can happen. Check all your connections and try to get it boosted with another vehicle and cables. Good luck. Thanks for the update.

Do you suspect a weak battery? No interior lights left on, I presume?

check battery earth leads or put a jump lead from battery earth to engine

I am with a similar problem...

After putting on a new sump i found that the starter motor would work cranking the engine but no power is going to the glow plugs. The light on the dash does not appear either.

The relay for the coils does click but that is the end of it. I have a suspission it is the imobiliser but after taking the battery on and off several times to reset... still nothing.

There is fuel, good battery (fully charged), fuel lines are clean pressurised...

Any ideas???

2000 peugeot 306 1.9 diesel smokey on startup and misfiring when cold but is ok after heating up no wAater loss any ideas

change the glow plugs i used to have a 306 and a huge cloud of white smoke come out of the exhaust on start up lol, changed the glow plugs and was clear as a whistle, its because the glow plugs dont get as hot as the others and fires up on the hottest cylinders so if you have two glow plugs out the other two are being forced to turn over hope this helps you ;)

Diesel engine keeps stalling

Hi!
Looking at the brief description of your problem it may be your heater plug timer? when you start the vehicle from cold the glow plugs have to heat up. These are little pencil type plugs that are mounted in the cylinder head they are timed and glow rather like the bar of an electric fire so the hot spots in each cylinder warm and give precise combustion. If the timer/relay gives only a short burst of power your car will start as normal but if the cylinders are still cold/cool when it shuts off the Vapourised Diesel doesn't ignite correctly so rev's drop and if you can't raise them will stall. When you turn off the ignition and back on again the timer/relay kicks in glow plugs glow and bingo your'e off again. I presume after the first stall everything is back to normal? if not how far up the road is it before engine dies? also how long after starting does it stall?
I hope you don't mind the Epic, Oh! if your 306 continues try starting the car and waiting a while listen for a click like a switch or if the interior light is on when it brightens after a few seconds turn off the ignition then back on and start then see how far you go!
Good Luck!

Difficult start

i have the same problem on my 306 i changed the battery and starting was much improved although i still need to change one of my glow plus i cannot get to * You have probably shorted out the +12v supply wire to the top of the glow plug. It is easily done and is easily corrected. Examine all of your wires to the glow plugs. At the end of each one should be a small ring crimp going over the threaded post and held on with either a 6mm or 8mm nut. These crimps should be only touching the threaded post, and not the glow plug body. They are very thin metal and easily bent to touch the body of the glow plug, hence not giving the heater element inside the juice to work. Good luck space cadet.
