I have a 2001 Acura 2.3 tl that has reached 100k mi. I have had no problems with this car whatsoever. Does it really need servicing at 100,000 mi or will it be fine for another 100,000 mi whithout the recomended service? Acura recommends replacing the timing belt at 100,000 miles is this really necessary or can I ignore this? If I must replace it, is there a more affordable place to have this service performed competently other than an Acura dealership? ($800 estimate from Acura to replace timing belt)
I found other service centers that said they will do the same work for $300 to $500 but will they do the job competently, seriously is there a trustworthy auto mechanic shop in this world of greed and dishonesty?
My TL '99 has 190,000 mile very happy with this car on 100,000miles timing belt was change for $250+parts $130 in local car shop its take like 2-3 hours, when i seen that old belt it was like a new one mechanic sad you dont really need to change it, but i like this car also i changed water pump, this is what they usually changing with belt, this is real nice car, no wonder made by honda

I myself would only have this work performed at the Acura dealer, due to the special tools required to do the job properly and they perform service only to Acura vehicles. Don't risk having a local to perform the repair to save a few bucks. You will regret it. If your timing belt breaks or is installed improperly then you will be looking at a $5000 engine job. Just my opinion.
Yes, Check the BBB, also you should change the timing belt it should be changed every 75k so you are do for a timing belt. Also dealerships will charge you a arm and leg more then a regular mechanic
Just make sure they have a warranty on their work. You can check the BBB listings online and find out which are reputable or not.
