Just put a rebuilt tranny in my automatic 5.3 engine 1500 2000 chevy silverado and its not shifting out of first gear. Any ideas?

AS YOUR CAR IS VERY OLD. THE ENGINE PARTS MUST BE VERY OLD. IN THIS SITUATION EVERY CAR DOSENT WORKS PROPER WHEN THE ENGINE BECOMES HOT. YOU JUST NEED TO CHECK AT CHEVY SERVICE CENTER FOR A BETTER SOLUTION. THEY WILL HELP U BETTER AFTER CHECKING YOUR CAR PERSONALLY.

Replace the vehicle speed sensor, it's located in the tailhousing of the transfercase

Check transmission fluid with vehicle up to temp (after driving) and running at idle on level ground. If slightly overfull no problem. Be sure to remove dipstick, wipe clean and reinstall/remove for accurate fluid level check.

SOURCE: It's an automatic but it won't shift from 2nd to 3rd.

I would have to say it is the tranny check the fluid make sure it is clean and at the correct level
