My car was taken in to have exhaust fixed, when I picked up my car it drove fine, but after about 10-15 minutes of driving I came to a stoplight and while waiting for it to change, this absolutely horrible loud vibration started to occur and it sounded like it was coming from the back of the car. It stopped doing it once I was driving but started back up anytime the car was idling. It did this again today, driving fine at first but after continued driving the loud vibrations occurred anytime I was idling. The handling of the car has not been compromised, it's just this loud vibration at the back of the car (or at least it sounds like it's coming from there). I want to take it in again but I know they won't drive it long enough for the noise to start and thus tell me nothing is wrong, so I'd like to go in armed with some information as to what could possibly be the problem. You need to take the car back to the place that did the exhaust work. What you are hearing is the exhaust system (pipe, muffler, etc.) touching the underside of the car. The exhaust system is mounted along the underside of the car with exhaust hangers (usually made of rubber) also called insulators. The reason you don't hear it when going is because when you step on the gas the engine torques causing the exhaust system to move away from what it is touching.
