Unable to turn key in the ignition Tried wd40, nothing. Tried moving steeling wheel back and forth, nothing Need to replace ignition cylinder lock but I am unable to find instructions
SOURCE: Ignition key will not turn
Thanks to the person with the wd40 suggestion. stuff that little red tube right up there and liberally spray. I just had the panic when I went to drive to the store in my 98 town & country and the key didn't turn. I read lots of varying solutions and was ready to get the emergency locksmith out here to replace the barrel and then I stumbled across that suggestion here. It made so much sense...and it worked. The barrel will probably still need to be replaced at some point, but not urgent.
thanks again!

Try shooting some wd-40 in the tumbler, and working the key around a bit. If have another key, I would try that as well. If that does not work for you, you may have to replace the "ignition tumbler".

Remove the key. 5 Have your car serviced ASAP

HI, There is a cheaper option, You could try to change the barrel yourself, it's not that hard you need to be mechanically minded & carefull of the key-immobiliser receiver unit & any wiring, as the immobiliser key pickup is normally a plastic unit wrapped around the barrel. Also you dont need to re-programme the unit you can either swap the emmitter's in the key's, some are just a small capsule, or you could just start the car with the other key on the keyring, depaending on the range of the emmitter you should get away with it, last resort tape the keys back to front !
But if you are considering getting rid of the car then having a go at taking the old ignotion unit apart should'nt matter & you might find that simply stripping the unit oiling and re-assembling may work plus it will give you an idea how hard it is to replace, if the unit is faulty then you just have to re-trace your step's & re-assemble the new unit, take note's along the way!
Also to take some panels & part's off you might need a torx driver set (star shaped) but if you just have trim screw's that are torx you can use allen key's most time's, I've usually got away with using them when without my set!
Hope this help's!
Any questions just post!

Push gear selector up past park and it should loosen up, or press hard on the brake pedal. Shifter up past park usually loosens it up. Common GM problem.
