Could be the crankshaft sensor causing the timing to be off if it has a coilpack type distributor or if it has a gear driven distributor then it could be either the distributor itself or possibly just cap and rotor

1994 Ford Escort, auto trans, 83,000 mi, randomly won't shift from 1st to 2nd, randomly loses power at hwy speeds

It could be an internal problem with a pump, or it could be it needs to be serviced really bad. Most 'oil change' places can also do transmission services... I'd try that first, before paying a big repair bill to a shop. good luck.

The v6 engines had a problem with the throttle body gasket leaking air. Could be the same problem on your engine. It wouldn;t happen until the vehicle had been driven for a while, then the gasket would become fuel soaked and would be sucked in at the back corner of the gasket. Replace the throttle body gasket and see if the problem goes away.

1991 sonoma clutch question

DO NOT DRIVE, get the vehicle to a transmission specialist it sounds as if a bearing has failed in the transmission. these units have a habit of exploding through the case. If this happens a very expensive new unit is required. second hand units are as rare as rocking horse *?$!.

Random shut off

Check to see if there are tire inflation sensors in the valve stems in the wheels. If it has these, they could be the problem.

Loss of oil pressure

main bearings are worn and when heats up they expand even more and oil can blow out these with less pressure.
