I have a 2006 Chevy equinox and my headlights won't stay off..I have them on auto but even during the day they come on and stay on..they keep draining my battery. The only way to make sure they stay off is to take the fuses out, but that's going to be a big problem at night time..anyone have any suggestions? I can't figure out where the daytime and nighttime headlight sensor is either! Help!

Spray some contact cleaner on the connection to the fan. Wiggle the wiring harness at the center of the fan. That's how I got mine to work. Lots of other wiring harness issues with my 2006 Equinox. The A/C won't work unless you put pressure on the wiring harness behind the panel next to you left foot. Head lights don't go off. No way to fix it that I can find so I attached a kill switch to my battery on the negative side. I had to cut a hole in the battery cover to do this. I also just replaced the struts after 197000 miles. It was getting dangerous to drive in the rain. I'm shooting for 250K miles on this car. Put a good sealer additive when you do your oil change so it leaks less on your starter. I replaced the starter 3 times but with lifetime warranty on the starter it's no big deal. Use a zip tie when your door handle breaks- just remember to pull forward not out. Seal the outside of your sun roof with silicone when your car starts filling with water. Just remember not to open your sun roof anymore. I got pulled over by a cop once because my license plate lights were out. I bought replacement bulbs for $6.00 but have yet to install them. I'm impressed this car my actually turn 200K. That will be a first for me. The radio works good.

SOURCE: pontiac vibe headlights come on when its cold

Remove the fuse labeled ECU-B from the fuse panel inside the vehicle. The instrument panel fuse block is located underneath the instrument panel on the driver's side of the car. This will disable to Daytime Running Lights. These have been known to come on at odd times during cold weather and thus drain the battery. Disconnect the battery and have it fully charged using a battery charger that you plug in to your homes electric supply, or replace the battery with a new one. This should keep the Daytime Runners from coming on and draining your battery when the car is not on. Once you have done this you can then take the vehicle to a service location and have the issue taken care of. This is only a band-aid so you can limp through until you can get it fixed. This is not a permenant solution.

SOURCE: turn off 05 equinox daytime headlights

You can turn them off with the headlight switch, rotate it counter clockwise. You will have to do this every time you start the vehicle. Thank our government for this one. There is also a relay in the under hood fuse block DRL relay. Pull it, but be sure your low beam head lights still work with the switch. Good Luck

turn the selection knob to auto and leave it there. the lights will automatically come on whenever the sensor on the dash trips. it takes a minute in a tunnel but you will never have to worry if your lights are on.

there is a small sensor on the dash of your truck if this is covered or excessively dirty it will keep your auto lights on. if you press the dome light over ride button in and out three times this will turn your lights off.

2005 Chevy equinox when releasing the emergency brake and the headlight switch is on auto the lights come on automatically except the tail lights.

You probably have daytime running lights - when you do this during daylight hours, only the front running lights will come on. If at night, regular headlights and tail lights will come on. If this is not the case, you will have a problem with the headlight control module.

Odometer won't work unless headlights turned off, radio lights dim, blinker won't blink all the time now battery light comes on but battery tests good. Intermittent issues getting worse. Horn

You probably have a bad ground in the electronic instrument cluster, or cluster connection to wiring harness. I would recomend you have a qualified auto tech diagnose it. It is not a easy fix.

Replaced the map light assembly on my 2006 Equinox. Now the headlights stay on all the time. The headlights go off when you have the driver's door open.

sounds to me you have a short in some of the wires so if you know how to use a multimeter that you can check the wires connectors. Sometimes you have to also make sure that all wire connectors are connected so you do not have a short any where.

I need a headlight adjustment tool for a 2006 Chevy Equinox. Based on what I saw in the adjustment hole, it's probably a geared-end type tool. Where can I buy one?

It's a t-15 Torx tool (screwdriver). You can buy one at your local parts store. Tell them that you want to adjust your headlights.

Autozone and Advance Auto Parts have it, for example.

Auto headlights

Yes, the headlights normally will come on during the da. There is a photo sensor that controls this feature. You may refer to your owner's manual before assuming that there is any major issues. It is possible that this feature has been disabled at some point in the past. It is also possible that these "daytime driving lights" will only come on while the vehicle is in gear. In either case, I would definitely refer to your owner's manual to find out the details of how this system works, as many of today's auto manufacturers are starting to use a variety of different methods for enabling/disabling these types of features. Hope this helps and have a great day!
