My Old 1985 Ford F-150 (5.0, 302 - EFI) want crank, it was running fine. The next day it want crank, I sprayed fuel injection it will run and then cut on.I changed the fuel filter in the reservoir and i noticed there is no gas in the reservoir when i took it back off to check it. I took the fuel lines loose down stream of the fuel pump and turn the switch as attempting to crank, no fuel coming out of the Electric Fuel Pump.I have reset the Cut Off Switch / Inertia Switch and it still want crank. I traced the fuel lines and I cant find another fuel filter. Need help please.
I actually have a 1985 302 efi... there are 2 pumps one one the rail right under drivers door and one in the tank.. there are also two filters... one just behind the pump one the rail.. its actually inside a canister that you open with a oil filter wrench then it has a paper element inside..then there is a inline filter that is actually part of the high pressure line the hose is about 3 feet long and runs from your front pump up to the fuel rail agaist the firewall...this one is really hard to find (Buy) good luck wish i hade a carb
Where is the fuel filter location
If you chk. all fuses and relays and pump is not pumping gas then its pump thats bad, you kind of answered your own question here.
Its been a long time sense i worked on one of thies, like back in 85 or 86, and only worked on one, but from what i can remember there was a filter in the rear tank, there are two pumps one outside of front tank and one inside rear tank, i think the one in the rear tank is like a pusher pump that pushes the gas to the main pump, but what i do remember is i chg. both pumps and all filters, but at that time the truck was new and the customer wanted it fix. i have heard of people disconnecting the rear tank and just running off the front. I can't tell you much about thoes switches. if there was some way you could bypass them and put on a manual switchover that would be the way to go.I'll try to find out more and get back to you.
OK i just got off the phone with a friend of mine who has his own shop for the last 30 years, and he said your problem is where your 2 tank lines go into, that looks like a filter canister but it is not, he says do not try to take apart, its printed right on it (don't atemp to take apart) you need to replace that and your problem is solved. Each tank has a pump and filter, but like i said they are just pusher pumps or primer pumps for main pump on frame. so there should be no need to take out tank. unless its to chg. filters.
All i know is he told me it looked like its one of them screw on filter canister, kind of like the old fords had under the old michanical fuel pumps, he told me it had 2 lines going to it 1 line from each tank, and is not serviceable he said it says right on it (not to be taken apart) then he says it has what looks like a nut on bottom of canister you can put a wrench on it to take it off but you can't, you will have to bear with me i'am a michanic. Single function filter resavor, sounds close to what he said it was.
I am trying to locate the part you need, but i'am having the same problem you are, they say i need the vin.# but i will keep looking. I'll ask my friend where he found it, and get back to you.
Well this is the best i can do for you, I checked with advance auto parts, and he told me that they can't get the original part, but they have a universal set up that takes the place of the original. If your interrested in it to stop buy any of there stores and they will show you pictures of what they have, There are different ones for different applacations, but said there sure they have what you need. Hopes this helps you out.

Same problem with my 85 F-150 5.0 EFI---turned out that the fuel pump relay under the hood was teriffically corroded on the inside (I opened up the relay to look inside). When I checked the voltage at the fuel pump it would show 3.5-6 volts instead of 12 volts.
I was thinking fuel blockage or perhaps failure of the in-tank pumps. Sometimes the truck would start and run, othertimes it would neither start nor run. Typically, if running it would stay running until turned off (where the relay had to break).
Changing the green fuel pump relay fixed the problem--12 volts now at the pump and no reoccurance.
Good luck--let me know if this fixed your F-150.

Check your fuel pressure,it should be between 28-35 psi,if its to low check fuel filter or fuel pump,to high check fuel pressure regulator. Fuel pressure regulator is located on the top of the gas tank. You can get to it from under the trunk where the fill tnak is

Thanks for this info.
I'm told that this 1985 Ford F-150 (EFI) Truck has 2 filters and 2 fuel pumps. I have located the one (Elect. Fuel Pump) that is located under the Truck along the left side Fire Wall / Rail. I hear this one clicking in and making a humming noice for a second or two. As I stated before there is no gas getting to this Fuel Pump and the Reservoir / Filter. I'm trying to eliminate everything before taking the Fuel Tank off, I'm told from the auto part store there is Filter in the Fuel Tank. Could the Cut Off Switch / Inertia Switch be bad ? How would I know if it's Gone / Bad ? What do it control ?
Will it prevent the inside tank fuel pump from operating ?
Await Responses !!!
I would like to eliminate everything before removing the fuel Tank since this to me is a big job.
Could the cut off /inertia switch stop the fuel pump from operating inside the fuel tank ?
Or will it stop both ?
I know the external Fuel Pump is operating, because I hear it click in and humming for a few second.
Thanks for your help, Juust one question OK, I'm not a mechanic so bare with me.
So what he is saying is that the filter reservoir (Single Function Filter Reservoir -- supply line & return line) is bad, it looks like a oil filter that screws off and inside is a filter. It's located under the truck on the frame right before the main line go into the high pressure electric fuel pump.
I want to make sure we are talking about the same part, This reservoir get fuel from the fuel tank, it has 2 lines going there and from this reservoir (filter inside) a fuel line go to the electric fuel pump.
Is this what he is saying that need to replaced ?
I think they call this a reservoir in looking at a parts manual.
This will be better than removing that Fuel Tank, let me know if I'm right (Filter Reservoir) is the name he is referring to. Await response
Trying to locate a Single Function Fuel Reservoir (Filter inside) for a 1985 Ford F-150, 302, 5.0 EFI. This reservoir is located under the truck along the left frame rail between the Fuel Tank and The Electric Fuel Pump. This Reservoir feeds the fuel pump. Having a hard time finding one at an Auto Part Store. Anyone have any suggestions where to look ? Await responses !!
I will try this as you stated, Thanks so much for this information.
The Vehicle ID # is 1FTCF15N1F1A7735821, i HOPE THIS WILL DO IT.
