No, I did not mention EFI at any time. As I previously stated, this is a carbureted, emission controlled engine and does have an ECU. This is a California emission certified vehicle. The engine is original has has not been replaced. Since my original posting, we returned the carburetor and they either repaired the first one or sent another rebuilt one. The latest rblt. carb. runs the worst yet. I did a smoke test and smoke was pouring out of the secondary throttle shaft. Never seen such a vacuum leak in my life. The problem is a lean running condition and I ca see why. Contemplating changing it over to a later 1600 EFI engine or going to a VW diesel.

Hi dan , there is not a real ECU ., that is an electric carb, called MCS, + an o2 sensor , mcs box, and solenoid in the carb. good luck with that turkey, youd need mcgiver there. (or Merlin) consider a Harely CV carb. GM made this junk too. back in early 80s.

the good news, is the Dizzy works perfect, all by it self, all you need is a tuned carb. the CV carb is the most easy on earth.

if you read the FSM (sections) it dont tell you hot to diagnois the MCS. but the 02 sensor will fail with any air leaks , just like the true EFI. or bad bad baro sensor (thinks you are at high altitude when not. and go lean. there a solution._

87 has no ECU. so must be an engine swap to a 89 or newer tracker
or last sammi that did have EFI.
you said EFI and Carb in same paragraph and that is a contradiction.
post to my bbs for more help.
http://www.fixkick.com/bbs/

post a link to a photo of your engine, many sammy cars have a newer engine and EFI added. no matter we can fix it, but you need to learn whats under the hood first, photos rule in this word.

SOURCE: lack of power and speed.

Do you have any other modifications such as larger tires? The 1.3L engine puts out enough HP and Torque to run the stock size tires, but if you go up to a 31" or larger you will loose the ability to use 5th gear except for downhill runs with a tailwind. The stock carb is just too restrictive and is designed for fuel economy and low emissions.
If you do have stock wheels on it then the stock carb should be able to turn them. The problem may not be in the carburator body itself though. If any of the vacuum lines, solenoids, vacuum switches or EGR on the carb are defective or not hooked up correctly the Little Hitachi carb will not function correctly.

If you don't live in a state that has CARB emission standards then you should go with an aftermarket carb and a set of headders. The Webber is a popular and very easy replacement. Opening up the exhaust to about 2" with a set of headders will allow it to breath well and still have enough back pressure to give you low end torque.

SOURCE: Temperature gauge problem on a 1987 Samurai

There's two sending units in the intake. The little on with single prong at the t-stat housing is for the guage and the bigger one plastic connector is for ecm.

Your signal is getting grounded somewhere.

SOURCE: 1987 suzuki samurai engine problems

ok theres a pcv valve located between the carb and the valve cover. its screwed into the intake manifold. make sure it is hooked up. also check for any vacuume leaks. if you find any cracked hoses, replace them.

also for the guy whos sami sputters on turns. check the ground stud located above the battery on the firewall. if its loose or corroded clean it up and tighten it.check the ground strap coming from the distributor area between the engine and firewall. make sure its in good shape. alot of times the distributor o rings leak oil on the wiring and rot it out. thats easy to repair also. check your engine mounts by standing on one side of the hood and grabbing the engine and pulling it side to side. the mounts are known for wearing out. they are fairly easy to replce and cheap. about 20 a piece if not less.

SOURCE: Suzuki Samurai Hitachi carb manual

Car 1994 Suzuki Vitara (Sidekick), 3 door, carburetor, petrol.
I need a hose diagram for the carburetor. The person who owned it before made a mess of the system so its not throttling steadily. Hoses are blocked off and I suspect hoses re routed.

Help me please!

Rough idling engine

Check for intake manifold vacuum leaks. Spray around the intake with a can of carburetor spray and if you hit on a leak the engine idle will change.

1987 subaru carburator problems

You need to hone the accelerator pump well and adjust the throw of the pump rod as much as possible to get more fuel. Of course that is just a guess based on 100's of rebuilds i have done over the years. I have also found that Japanese carbs seldom turn out when rebuilt.

1980 F100 with a straight 6 cyl. Won't idle.

The vacuum comes from the intake manifold and ported vacuum comes from the carb above the throttle plate. You might have a leak at the carb gasket or intake manifold gasket. Spray some car cleaner or WD40 around the gaskets and vacuum lines while the engine is running and when you hear the idle speed up, you've found the leak. You will need to install the rebuilt carb first, and you should tighten any loose intake manifold bolts. Don't overtighten them. Also check the EGR valve because it could cause the engine to stall at idle. A good tune up might be needed too. I've seen some of those engines run real rough when the ignition timing was off.

Idles rough plugs are white runs and drives good but idles rough everything has just been rebuilt and checked all vacuum lines are where they go i dont think it could be timing but

sounds like the same problem I had with my 1985. I have found that when the carborator goes bad. It gets an internal vacume leak that can,t be fixed. I wen,t through 9 rebuilt ones that all had the same problem. put on a aftermarket weber carb & has ran fine for the last 7 years.

Engine surges, and almost dies with throttle advance

get a remote starter button at kragen and connect it to your battery and solenoid. try to hold your rpm to approx. 2000 rpm and at the same time choke the carb. with a rag just before the motor wants to die, pull the rag away fast, do not let the motor die!!! this will **** any debri from the carb. jets.remember to maintain 2000-2500 rpm while doing this...maybe more than once.g.l.

Engine Idles rough

Try rebuilding your Carburator ,sounds to me your uncle is right the diaphram under the carburator, known as the power valve will cause your engine to lack power and surge as though it's looking for a idling point, and it will cause flooding, Cheaper to buy a complete rebuilders kit from an auto parts store than it is to buy knew one ! or even have it done. last time I rebuilt my ford carb I paid about $18.00 dollars for the Master rebuilder kit ! also you will need a tach and dwell meter to adjust the carb.Good Luck.

Rough idle warm up or cold

The carb may be able to be rebuilt but those old *** carbs where not very good to start with. The Weber application is a great one and will last a very long time you can also get a kit for a holley if you want to get more performance. The engine in your truck will last forever as you already know but it will start leaking oil on the front side of the engine. When this happens the tech will try to replace the pan gasket but the problem will be the front main seal. When this happens have the tech change the timing chain at same time and you will save a fortune.
