Gotta check the fuses, then start tracing power leads.. do you have power to the motors up by the headlights? got power going to the switch? have you checked the grounds.?..

perhaps its the wiring leading to the lamp itself. I don't know about your car, but when i fixed mine, there are 3 lines leading to the headlights. perhaps the one leading to the regular light is probably cut or burnt. Try to have it checked with a car electrician if you're not comfortable fiddling with you car's wiring!
There's a 30-amp fuse for the headlamps - check that first. Under the hood on the passenger side. Right next to it is a relay that drives the headlights.
Buy a new pair of headlights from a French Motor Factor or from your nearest Mazda dealer and just swap them over. Then go to a garage to get the headlight beams correctly adjusted. Voila!
If you want specific instructions, then you'll need diagrams which are not available online for copyright reasons, but Haynes publish the correct manual which you can either buy new or get secondhand from online suppliers like ebay and Amazon.
what is the voltage of the battery when running, voltage when turned off, voltage after headlights are on for 10 minutes. is the battery good? how do you know. these take a sealed gell cell battery.
does it go in a bit ??if it does its needs cleaning with an oily rag ,if its not moving at all replace it a cable inside has broke.take it apart anyway and try to fix it thats how you learn ----
