Can I just drop the drive line and replace seal or does the whole tranny have to come out
If its leaking out of the back of the transfer case, and not between transfer case and tranny, that should be all thats necesarry.
If you have the space drop the drive line . You should have a tranny shaft poking out of the housing and the seal should be right at the back. 2 ways you can go. Get a good heavy screwdriver and lever out the seal or drill a small hole and with a slide hammer pull ot the seal. To fit the new seal use a piece of pipe That has the same dia as the outside of the seal tap the new seal in keeping it square to the hole. Tap in till level with edge of case. Check oil level and replace any lost oil as some will run out when you drop the drive line

First of all yes it will damage the transfer case with no oil in it or even low oil. if it is just a seal then it is easy to replace, but if it means splitting the transfer case this is not a job for the diy, unless you have experience with transmissions or transfer cases. It should not be too expensive to have the work done by a profesional. Which also give you a warranty.

You must raise the car on jackstands on all 4 corners (lift or jackstands) and remove the fill plug from the side of the transmission. You will see 2 plugs - 1 higher than the other. The top plug is the one you want. Fill the casing until fluid starts coming out. Replace the plug, and re-test.

Rear output shaft? you should only have one transfer case :) Ok so put the ebrake on. Put the truck in neutral. Matchmark the yoke to the tcase. remove the bolts that hold on the ujoint. This should drop the driveshaft from the tcase. Use an axle socket to remove the nut holding on the yoke. Tap the yoke off with a soft face mallet. pull out the felt ring. Using a seal puller remove the seal. tap in a new one very carefully. reinstall in reverse order. ensure you torque the nut to the required torque aling with the ujoint bolts.

clean off entire area near where you suspect the leak is coming from, then look carefully to locate it. Try slightly tightening any bolts near the leak area after it's located If at the pan gasket do not overtighten or you will crush the gasket and it will leak more. Yes, it can be driven as long as you keep it full.

well if it is a v6.. the stick is on your right(as you stand in front) and way down. It has a yellow handle, but hard to see.
if you have v4 probably doesn't have one they are sealed.
