02 windstar dead spot in middle of stroke while braking

My 02 wind star has a dead spod in the middle of the stroke when I brake. I have bleed the brakes and they are still doing the same thing, I can push the brake peddle to the floor and get the van to stop but it does not feel like much pressure holding it there. if I pump the brakes I can get better results for only that braking. My right front brakes seeme to be hotter thatn the left. Could it be the master cylender and how do i test it? Thanks

Only way to test brake master cylinder is to remove the metal lines attached & block off the ports on the cylinder. If your pedal is now firm , then its a bad master cylinder. To isolate a wheel problem , you could clamp off the rubber line at each wheel & see how pedal reacts. the only problem is that you could also damage the rubber hose. Master cylinder is your pedal problem.

When trying to bleed the brakes on a 1998 ford windstar, i get pressure on the passenger front and driver rear, but not on the passenger rear or the driver front. Why?

Sounds like the safety valve is not centered in its fixture. What happens is the system has diagonal braking control which is used to prevent the complete loss of brake fluid. This shuts off the wheel that is losing pressure from complete fluid pressure loss One front wheel and one diagonally opposed rear wheel are used so that the car will not pull left or right when stopping.

The situation may clear if you attempt to bleed the brakes using the longest line first and progress to the shortest line last.

CAR BRAKE PROBLEMS

It can be issue with master cylinder or the problem is there is still some air there in the system, that has to be bleed.Or else the parts replaced are not aligned properly/.I suggest everything back.

When i start my wind star in park and apply brake it wont shift out of park

Hi, first check your brake lights. If they are not working, the likely problem is the brake light switch above the brake pedal.
The shifter has a solenoid that locks the shifter until you put your foot on the brake. If the brake switch fails or the fuse burns out, the brake will not signal the shift solenoid to unlock the shifter. If the brake lights are working, the problem may be the shift solenoid itself. The solenoid is at the base of the shifter.

Brake light staying on. on my 2001 ford windstar what might it be

check your master cylinderr fluid level. If full brakes may be worn badly or master cyoinder may be going bad.. if brakes are ok change brake sending unit usually located on master cylinder. do noty drive until you are positive your brakes are good. if fluid level is low in master look for brake fluid under car usually on back of wheel.if no brake fluid on back of wheel inspect brake lines for a hole usually rusted through. if this is helpful please leave me positive feedback.

Where is the fuse for a 2003 wind star rear windshield defroster located?

The fuse panel is located below and to the left of the steering wheel by the brake pedal. Remove the panel cover to access the fuses. Check the Relay 5 for Rear Defrost Relay (page 159).

More details can find in the 2003 Windstar Owners Manual.

Bleeding brakes

No need to run the engine. Start the bleed procedure from the caliper farthest from the master cylinder, and work toward it. This means bleed the passenger rear first, then the driver rear, then passenger front, then driver front. Don't stop bleeding any caliper until you get three or so consecutive streams of air-free fluid through the bleeder. Monitor the level of fluid in the cylinder, and be sure the cap is on while bleeding - only open it to add additional fluid as needed.
