2005 mercedes cdi, 167,000 miles, sometimes car will 1. not kick down to lower gear, 2. will not exceed 3000 rpm. Pulled egr valve and cleaned off a small amount of carbon, no change, "check engine light " will sometimes come on, but not always and will go off on its own. If I do nothing to repair this condition, will it hurt the motor? The car runs great, fuel mileage and accerlation are fantastic.

Cars do not get better so any problems you have now will eventually become very expensive
have the fault codes read and fix the shown faults

SOURCE: car problems

Sounds to be a loose or corroded wire/s at either starter motor or at battery fusible links.
Also check the earth strap (Cable) between engine and bodywork.
Hope this helps, MMP

SOURCE: Power Loss Mercedes 220 cdi '98 Trouble code P1403

It sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere between your valve and your source. A common vac leak that occurs on the 220 is at the vac. rubber y located at the back of the intake manifold. Follow your vac. line from the egr to the switchover valve and from the switch over valve to the source. Which is probably the y connecter

SOURCE: mercedes clk 270 cdi check engine light

hi, unfortunately this is one of them how longs a piece of string things, you could purchase a code reader reset the error code but, what you have to think of is what caused it to do it in the first place, accelerating to hard should not cause an error ( i do it all the time in my car lol ) but it might be related to the 02 sensor getting to much unburnt fuel passing it which would cause the engine light to come on, though if the car is running as normal i doubt that will be the issue, i would myself on a car like that take it to the main dealer and get them to check it out, as buying an inexpensive code reader might not cut the mustard with this one, and parts being as dear as they are for merc's i would play on the safe side, spend a few bucks to save a load...sorry not much help

Hi

Sopunds like either 1 of 3 things

Air mas sensor
EGR valve "exhaust gas recycler" valve
throttle control module.

Most likely the one of the first 2, check for air leaks as well. air mass is cheapest part, EGR and air mass can often be cleaned and work fine again. do you get an engine light at all?
if so then I would say have the EGR checked.

Trouble code 23'15 car is in slow mode. 05 cdi diesel c200. can someone tell me whats wrong?

Hi most likely the EGR valve.

Thats an exhaust gas recycler vale, are you geting an engine light aswell?

does the car feel ver slow and stuggling with power and on hills. you can clean the EGR if thats the issue, or also the air mass sensor although you would be getting rough idle as well.

Please let me know if you need more info about the EGR.

Why does my 2005 ford ranger edge when I reve motor past 3000 rpm's it soud like it's running rough

Check for

vacuum leaks on intake manifold,

the air tube between the air filter.

intake manifold vacuum hose.

===
clean throttle plate with Berryman carburator cleaner

SEE sample picture HERE
===

Also remove carbon built up behind the EGR valve and the EGR passage tube.

===

Vacuum leak WILL offset the intended 14.7 to 1 air fuel ratio.

More un-metered air (leaks) will lean out the fuel mixture.

Use small amount of Berryman carb clearer at potential air leak area will help you identify trouble spot.

At idle,just spray and listen for the RPM surge.

The in-rush of carb clearer will increase the RPM on the motor.

Record the problem spot(s) and address it later.

===

EGR carbon built up require 2+ hours to clean from start to finish.

You will need a new EGR base gasket before your start.

Locate and remove the EGR valve after the vehicle is cool down.

Carefully record the connector and vacuum line (for older vehicle) location by drawing an easily to follow diagram.

Remove the EGR valve.

Inspect the location of the carbon built-up inside the valve and the EGR passage tube.

SOAK these areas with WD-40 spary.

You will need a small screwdriver,cloth hanger and lot of newspaper and time to get this cleaning done right.

RE-SOAK the carbon and let it sit for over-night will also help.

One the last round,pass a shop vacuum of the EGR valve and the passage pipe.

Install the new EGR gasket and connectors.

Allow the vehicle to warm up outdoor to burn up any remaining WD-40.

Take it for a test drive.

Measure the exhaust back pressure. Do you have an old O2 sensor? If so just break the ends off of it so that just the tube is left sticking thru the center. Install it in one of the O2 ports and hook a vacuum/pressure guage to it. Should read les than 1 psi at idle and no more than 3 to 4 psi at WOT.

Sprinter gear selector

This is the gear linkages. It is a cable operated system to allow the gear lever to be dash mounted.

They are a common fault. The parts are about £65 from Mercedes (dealer only part) and unless you know what you are doing you can expect about 2 - 3 hours labour charge, though there are no special tools involved.

They average about 60,000 miles, though the replacements tend to be better.
