Is it possible the cap and rotor are not working correctly ? Letting spark go to the wrong cylinders ?
And have you checked compression on all cylinders to check valve timing ?
Is the check engine light on when the engine is running ?

SOURCE: 2004 Dodge Ram Backfiring and blowing Muffler

White smoke....Means a Blown Head gasket.. Now its not bad enough to stop the vehicle from running but its bad enough, to blow out white smoke..now sooner or later it will stop completly, but you dont want to warp the cylinder heads too bad, then you will have to replace them also, so you might want to fix this problem as soon as possible...and the muffler keeps going bad, becasue it is filling up with coolant/ or too much water, which it is not designed to do..You also maybe doing damage to your cat. converters also...so be careful....And Goodluck, and keep me posted...

95 dodge dakota back fires above 2000 rpm

A tune-up is always a good idea. Is the system running rich or lean? Any applicable trouble codes? Is it back firing out the exhaust? If so, I got two thoughts, either an exhaust system problem or exhaust valves?

1988 k1500 backfires and almost dies when warmed up and on highway when giving more gas

Usually when you get a backfire thru the intake the problem is timing or a lean fuel mixture.
If you are sure the ignition system is in good condition, I would have the fuel pressure tested.
You could also have a vac leak that is random, or a problem with the throttle position sensor. But if the sensor has failed you should get a trouble code and check engine light.

Had a 97 Dakota in the shop with no codes. Truck rans great most of the time. But at times it backfires thru the exhaust and sounds like the throttle body. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic and try my best to...

COULD BE THE INJECTOR. FIND THE RESISTANCE VALUE OF THE COILS AND TEST THE NEW ONE. OR JUST TEST ITY AGAINST AN OLD ONE. IF IN SPEC THEN I WOULD BE LOOKING AT THE INJECTO0R FOR SURE.
