I have a 2008 saturn vue, when i drive sometimes from a start position i will press the gas pedal, the engine gets the fuel, the rpms rev someimtes upwards of 4000k rpm. then it will shift into gear. when i tried to duplicate this the engine normally shifts at 1500 rpm. the issue is sporadic. currently no engine lights are on. I do have a history where the check transmission light did go off but due to dealer getting that after the light being off and that issue sluggish shifting, went away they could not do anything. That issue occurred about 6 months ago.
SOURCE: cars engine rpm revs up periodically or shifts erratically
Sounds like you could have a vaccuum leak. you could spray carb cleaner around your lines and see if the engine's rpm increases or starts running like ****. That would be an easy test to indicate leak or not.
SOURCE: Gear Shift very stiff, doesnt want to go into 1st gear or reverse
Continued operation like this and $100 would have been the cheap fix. If this is a hydraulic clutch, check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. Most take Dot 3 brake fluid and it will say on the cap. It is located on the fire wall near brake master cylinder
SOURCE: Sluggish gear shift on 5-spd Saturn Vue
I have the same problem, Noticing that my 2006 Saturn Vue, 5-speed becomes extremely hard to shift
gears when the weather is cold. (Temps range from 20-43). Has been colder in the last month. What could this be?
also side note:
Our windshield wiper spray doesn't work on front window but work on back. They both started about the same time when the temps dropped to single digits. Dont know if that had any causes.
SOURCE: RPM is over 400 rpm higher than it should be with no gas pedal.
Could be several things.. I would suggest replace the neutral safety switch, all O2 sensors and fuel and air filters, PVC valve and if needed plugs n wires..
The issue could also be a bad throttle body.. Should be a good idea to get it hooked up to a diagnostic machine - get the codes and then you will know more of what you are dealing with..
Have a great day !!

You have a slave cylinder for this trans. Pump the clutch pedal 25 times with the engine OFF. Then start it and try shifting it into each gear while parked. If this make it work your slave cylinder needs to be replaced
