Just bought used, around 68000 miles; runs great, but have noticed that 2 times that I have run the gas pretty low before fill up, have had the truck try to die. Starts right back up and seems to have no problems. No warning lights. Could this be a fuel filter problem and some junk in gas tank that is causing a problem when the fuel level is low?

my ram 50 starts just like any other vehicle, (no light switch pulling whatso ever), it sounds like somebody haas rewired something wrong or you have a loose connection and when you hit a large enough bump it cuts your power. Start it up and find a speed bump somewhere and drive over it enough to give your truck a jolt and see if it dies.

Take a look at the down shift cable and make sure its not broken especially were it connects to the throttle linkage. And maybe try cleaning the electrical plug that plugs into the trans. Its about a 7 to 9 wire plug. They tend to collect water and short the wiring out.

it is possible that your coolent level is low or the thermostat that you just bought could be bad and one other thing there could be air in the system there for you gt to burp the system until the air is compleatly out

You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you can remove the bolts securing the mirror to the door...

No, the low fuel light did not come on the second time. And the second time it happened, my son had put gas in it. I just thought maybe it got down to the last of it and some trash mayhave gotten in the filter. I am seeing that it has no filter....and then I see that there is a filter for this model, so which is it? The shop where I get most things done says that they could look at the filter, check plugs etc. They have been very honest all the years I have used them, so is there a filter that can be changed or not??? I am not a master mechanic, but do not feel the gas gauge is inaccurate.
Doubt it's the filter. They do not clog and unclog. Gas gage may be inaccurate. My vehicle does the same thing. Fuel gets too low and when I take off, it dies. It starts up and if I move slowly, no problem . Good Luck
The fuel filter on the trucks is in the tank on the bottom of the fuel pump module. Is ypur low fuel light on when this happens?
