1997 volvo 850 abs light and trac light on

Hello- I have a 97 volvo 850 wagon that annunciates the abs and trac light at start up and then usually goes out in a minute or so after engine start... however.. both lights will intermittently stay on after engine start and not go out or will come on while driving... Assuming it is a sensor.. is this something a can buy and replace myself?

You will have to have the car diagnosed with a code reader most garages have them prices from £20-90 to diagnose the fault + parts.

Is there a seprate control module that controls the Traction Control and ABS. I brought a Volvo 850 GLT Wagon and I looked in the box thats located on the passenger side underneath the hood on the apron....

Probably not. There are often vacant positions in fuseboxes, relay boxes and the various other locations electrical and electronic equipment is sited..

If you need to locate the ABS ECU you need to discover the official location, which could be almost anywhere - behind the dash or behind kick panels, behind the glovebox...

My Volvo 94 850 odometer stop working, I bought

There are actually two gears that you need to replace, a large one and then smaller one that rides inside it. You can purchase them both at www.fcpgroton.com These can also sometimes affect the operation of your speedometer. Do you by chance have an ABS and TRACS light on? If so the speedometer issue may be related to your ABS controller.

96 volvo 850 speedometer somtimes works then it drops to 0

Two questions: Is your odometer working? If not then it's probably a broken gear by the stepper motor that Emissionwiz mentioned. Is your ABS and/or TRACS light on intermittently or constantly. If so that is a common sign your ABS control module has gone or is going bad. This usually happens before the speedometer starts acting up. Either one of these will start intermittently and finally end up with the speedometer not functioning at all, and both are pretty common failures with this model.

1997 Volvo GLT850 Tracks light remains on, can't get out of park without using override.I think it's the sensor but don't know how to replace.

Check and make sure that the brake lights are working. It may be the brake light switch. There is a possibility that there are two separate issues though. You can have a bad ignition switch also. After starting the car move the key slowly towards the off position or wiggle the key and see if the abs/tracs light goes off.

1994 850 wagon trac light and abs light come on while driving

I will bet money that it is the ABS/TRACS module. It is mounted under the master cylinder on the bottom of the ABS unit. These are very, very, very common failures. I have replaced hundreds of them in my career. To answer your other question, the TRACS system uses brakes. For example: in the snow, when the L or R wheel is spinning faster than the opposite, the TRACS will apply brake to the spinning wheel to slow it down to an equal speed. Hope this helps.

Abs and trac light on, abs vibrates car when braking

These two circuits are linked together and you probally need a ABS MODULE and possibly a rotor and they are pretty cheap on e-bay
