93 S-10
manual transmission, manual transfer case
It shifts into 4x4 high and low just fine but after I shift back to 2wheel high the light on the shifter indicating the front wheels are still locked in stays on.
Sometimes I can tinker with the shifter and pull forward and backward and it will go off. Otherwise it just goes off when it wants to.

SOURCE: when I put my 4x4
Jack up the vehicle (front and rear) and run it in 4X4 see if one of the front wheels is turning. If it is then probally your bulb is burnt out or possibly a wiring problem with it. If the front axle turns but neither wheel does, its probally the actuator in the front differential or the wiring for it.

SOURCE: 93 Chevy, gear shift **** between 2nd and 3rd
Remove the fluid - get a good flash light - get a very long screw driver - put the screw driver into the drain hole and force the transmission out of gear. Then remove the Transmission and replace or repair. Cheaper to replace. You bent the forks on the shift mechanism.

my 2000 did the same thing, I finnaly took it to the dealer and had to have the swithc motor replaced.
That cost me 600.00.
But it fixed it.
Good luck!

Is it an electric 4x4 shifter? With the automatic transmission you have to put vehicle in reverse for a short time to unlock the transfer case.
