I havr a dodge ram 99 gas start good run good the problem is when i stay in a light w s itin the truck turn off only in gear
FIRST HAVE A SCAN DONE TO CHECK FOR CODES, IF CODES ARE PRESENT FIX FIRST. IF YOU HAVE NO CODES CHECK FOR FUEL AND SPARK. CHECK FUSES FOR ECM, FUEL PUMP, INJECTORS ECT.
If its a diesel first thing id check is smell fuel if it smells like gasoline that will do it, or your pump solenoid wire came off there's two of them on mine,( I have a Dodge 92 D250 PU), or it could be sucking air in the line, (lose fittings?), just go through the process of elimination
It's a 5.9 360 gas and no smell of gas or anything
its Gas then i will tell you no spark no fuel at all i know ypour problem went through this my self i found out undernieth your distrubor cap its electronic right under your distrubutor cap is a flat looking electronic plug in box its black or white with a plug in on both ends of it right replace that its called a electroni ignition module it controls your gas and spark trust me i know been through this with my blazer i replaced fuel pump in tank and my spark plugs wires and changed all my fuses and relays and 600.00 dollars later found out it was my 60 dollar part electronic igfnition module !
or check your fuel pump

you need to things to run a motor,, gas and fire. take off the distributor cap and make sure its dry inside. look around it for cracks.
SOURCE: 2001 Dodge Ram 4x4 5.9, won't start.
needs a tune up on plugs wires and maybe coil pack but coil is last resort

I had a similar problem and believe it or not it was the CAT. An easy way to test for this is to remove the O2 sensor right in front of the CAT. Once you removed it, plug it back in while unscrewed from the exhaust pipe and start up the truck. If it runs fine, the CAT is your problem. This is just a guess and it would be an easy and very cheap($0) test. You did not say if the truck was diesel or gas. Mine is gas that was exhibiting the same problem as yours...good luck!

Go to AutoBeef.com and you will see there is a problem with th 98 & 99
Durangos. I took the advice to buy a refurbished PCM "Brain" from an online Florida company and my car has worked great ever since. Google for refurbished PCMs my cost <$300.00 and only 3 screws to change out. CAll the PCM company and tell they staff about your problem -- see if they think it is the brain. Sounds like same problem I had.

Did you check to see if there is power to the glow plugs if not then that may be the problem and if there is power when you cycle the key not to start but for the plugs to warm up you may have a bad glow plugs.
