I have a 97 dodge intrepid and I can't get the sunroof to close all the way. It will open fine and it has a vent feature on it that works fine. Once you open either one it is very hard to get back to close. Seems like the slose switch but I don't know how to check nor do I know how to replace even if I that were the problem. Please help Thank you. God Bless yo for what you do.
Sounds like the sun roof circuit breaker is tripping before fully closing. The C/B is in the fuse panel And looks like a fuse but is metal instead of plastic. The windows use the same style breakers. Change all of them, they are old. Also lubricate the tracks with lithium grease (spray can). Window tracks too.

Try replacing the fuse, on the 2004's the number 14 fuse supplies the sunroof and cluster (gauges), etc. Not sure if the number 14 fuse supplies the same things on your 2000 dodge but worth a try. If you have a manual it will tell you. This will more than likely be your problem if not let me know. To locate the #14 cavity remove the cover to the fuse box and look on the underside of the cover to find the location.

If the motor is stuck, you can probably hold the switch to the forward position, and smack the roof. This may allow the motor to start working. I don't think there is any way to do it manually.

First off, you should leave it closed. At least you can drive it that way. The grinding could be the motor itself, or a gear inside that has rounded or broken teeth. Another possibility is that it has slipped out of a channel or track. Unless you're pretty handy this sounds like a professional repair job.

either adjustment, in need of lubricant or there is something blocking it from going closed... may be something warped out of place - piece of plastic or rubber trim - take a flashlight and a real good look at the track with it in action.

No I have not tried the silicone spray yet. I got the car a few days ago and I bought it like this. When you press the button to open the sunroof it will open or to vent, it will vent. the problem is when I go to close it I can't with the close button. I accidentally hit the open button. Now it seems like it is in vent mood. Not open a lot but enough to let air in when driving on highway. Closed enough though not to let water in when washing the car. I don't know what to do to get it to close all the way. Thank you God Bless.
Have you tried a little silicone spray on tracks where glass slides, sometimes just needs lubrication.
