The door will not latch closed, it appears the thing inside the door is bent, but I can't figure out what the part is called to replace it. It is the thingy inside the panel that latches onto the pin on the door frame. I tried using the key to get it to open, currently door is kept closed with a bungie cord wrapped around the seat .... help
MAKE SURE THE DOOR LATCH IS NOT IN THE LOCK POSITION OPEN DOOR PULL THE INSIDE LATCH TO THE POSITION WHERE YOU WOULD TO OPEN DOOR AND TAKE FINGER AND TRY TO MOVE THE LATCH TO ANOTHER POSITION , HOPEFULLY TO THE POSITION WHERE IT WILL RECEIVE THE STRIKER POST OR THE PART THE DOOR WOULD NORMALLY LATCH ON

either of 2 issues...
latch is bent and needs to be straightened to the original position
or
the cable that runs from inside the car to the door latch is stuck and needs to be lubricated. Suggest Liquid Wrench initially to remove corrosion then any oil after a few days
IT sounds like you closed the Trunk/ Liftgate with the Latch partway closed. Lube the Latch and hopefully it is not bent. If it is not latching, you can try and ensure it is aligned propery (use a piece of Tape and see where it is hitting the STRIKER...
If not, you are going to be replacing the Latching Mechanism.
It appears that the door is not closing far enough for the latch to move to the second position in it's movement. ie on not closing the door properly you will see that it is latched but not closed . Push it harder and it closes properly. Lubricate the latch mechanism and you may have to adjust the catch position to allow the lock to go to the fully locked position POssible rubbers to cold and stiff to allow the door to close easily
if you talking about door latch wont let door close.try to reset all door locks.first if you cant get door close.work unlock button with remote or door switch.then hold open door handle while you flat screw driver pull up latch in door latch should stay up so door will close.once get door close.try resetting all door locks by sitting inside vechicle with all doors close.remove key from ignition.open drivers door.wait 24 seconds.turn ignition switch on and back to lock position 3 times.press and release drivers door courtesy light 3 times.ensure doors lock and unlock.if not wait 40 seconds and repeat procedure.if this procedure fails. you have problem in the door latch and lock mechanism inside the door itself.
Two things happen. One the latch is already latched and therefore it's closed before the gate shut, When you try to close it you might notice that the door don't close all the way. This doe'snt have to be thwe case. the other thing that happens if the lock mechanism is working, You here it click? The latch is stuck as the opener is stuck. You might get lucky and spray the latch with Blaster or other rust buster type penatrant. Theres angles though the opening of the latch . Spray on several angles and repleatly close the door trying to vibrate the Penatrant into the stuck area. Looking at the latch use a screw driver to move the latch and see if you can cycle it though it's positions to see if you can latch and unlatch it with the tool and reopen by pullung the handle ( you may need to try ther inside handle too and even the remote openner if you have one. Ussaaaly you need to push the button twice to open the rear hatch so it may take a few trys and spraying to get it to come loose.. Some vehicals stay closed a long time and stuck is the way to think.. But if the door is used often the linkage inside the door mayh have come off the the latch is closed and the linkage doesn't open the laTCH AND THE THING MANAGED TO GET CLOSED WITHT THE DOOR OPEN.
Sometimes these get stuck in the closed position...try pulling up on the inside door release before trying to close again...this re-aligns the catch to work properly...if needed then compare the door latch to the same door on the other side to adjust to open/close as needed...Hope this helps.
you probably nee d a new door latch assembly; inside the door, take alot of wd40, lube the door latch were it closes against striker pin, to free the movable part of the latch; push in on the door handle (like your opening the door), at the same time use a pointy screwdriver awl or flat blade scredriver and push the latch up and out of the locked position, its the movable part in the door latch, hopefully its not bent and will not move. also sometimes the door hinges wear out and the latch striker does not line up with the door latch pin, see if they line up if they do not close the door while lifting it at the same time. I hope this helps you
hello first thing to check is were the box mounts at the bottom of the door hinge assembly undo the screws you should be able to lift the door enough to release the lock inside goodluck
