How and what do I change? Camshaft, Crankshaft and/or PCM?

My 96 neon sputters when driving, but when I first drive it in the morning, it is fine for about 20 or so miles. Then starts sputtering, hesitating or doing what feels like are light misfires. The spark plugs, wires and ignition coil are new and I have put SeaFoam in the tank after the Chevron fuel injector/system cleaner didn't work to clean it, but it still happens. It felt like it got better for about 10 minutes when I cleaned it, but then it started again. When I originally checked the code it was random misfire p0300 which wasn't of much help because I can already feel that. I had replaced the spark plugs, wires, coil, fuel pump, cleaned fuel filter, pcv and now it is showing a p1391. So here are my questions: Where is the PCM located (in general) would I be able to change that myself? Where and How do I change the crank position sensor? Do I have to replace the head gasket when I replace this sensor? Which likely is it most likely to be?

I don't mind changing the parts, I just need to know where, how etc. I don't need diagnosis necessarily

SOURCE: auto question,I have an 96 Dodge Ram w/ 5.2L V8

I would check the injector. Pull the plug and check for corrosion. Use on ohm meter to check the injector. The resistance should be 11 to 15 ohms. Check it against another injector. they should be close. You can also check the injector plug. best to use is a noid light, but you can use the meter. set it to dc volts to check. the numbers should jump everytime it fires. since you got a 300 and 301 misfire it tells me that you have an intermitant misfire in cylinder 1. The other sensors are still good don't replace them. The coil is still good, because when it starts to go, it will have misfires on all cylinders or will not work at all. The crank sensor is the one that detects the misfire, again don't replace it because it's not bad, it's just doing it's job. If the injector and harness check out good then I would start check the cylinder for compression and mechanical problems

Did you just replace the PCM without having it programmed ? Who replaced the PCM ? you ?
PCM Re-Programming
The replacement PCM must be reprogrammed and the crankshaft position system variation procedure must be performed. Refer to the latest Techline information on PCM re-programming and this section for the Crankshaft Position System Variation Procedure.

My 2004 dodge neon sxt is giving me a p0340 code how do i fix this

A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

  • a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
  • the camshaft position sensor may have failed
  • the PCM may have failed
  • there exists an open circuit
  • the crankshaft position sensor may have failed

With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:

  • Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
  • Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
  • Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
  • Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
  • Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
  • Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
  • Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

Hope this is for any assistance.

For what sensor is the code po340 on a dodge neon 04 and how i change.

Hi,
This indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit. Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it.

96 dodge grand caravan help me please

Check MAP sensor. If PCM gets wrong data from MAP sensor it should offset ignition timing and/or make fuel mixture too lean or too rich.
