Parking brake adjustment

Parking brake doesn't hold. I have a 2001 Hyundai Accent 1.6L. The hand brake feels like i works but i get no stopping power from it at all.  The rear drums, shoes and hardware have just been replaced. The cable has been attached for the brake. The auto adjust mechanisms are greased and working. Can this cable be adjusted from the interior of the vehicle? What else can I check?

The parking brake does not engage.  I adjusted the nut for the brake from under the console back almost all the way and foward until the hand brake was very hard to pull. Still no stopping (or slowing for that matter). I can hear the shoes pushing outward. I adjusted the nut so i can hear the shoes at the 4th click.
I adjusted the shoes until I felt a slight drag on the drum.

On the accents what you need to do is to remove the plastic casing from around the parking brake mechanism. Towards the back on each side there is a screw that needs to come out. Then you will just need to wiggle the plastic casing out and around from the parking brake and set it aside with the screws. Once that is off on the inside there will be what looks like one long (gold colored) screw and at the bottom there will be a mini cable running off to each side. At the end of the tension adjuster is where you adjust it. Mine was very loose and I had to tighten it down quite a bit. It takes a 12 MM wrench. You will want to turn the wrench toward the passenger side to tighten it down. Hope this works for you.

2005 Hyundai accent gear shift stuck in park after brake failure

Make sure the brake lights are coming on if not the release solenoid that unlocks park gets no power and will not release the shifter from park position. Also check the owner's manual for a possible way to override the solenoid lock.

How do I adjust the rear drum brakes on a 2001 Hyundai Accent?

To get a "ball-Park" adjustment, just turn the adjustment mechanism (with drum removed) 'till you can just put the drum back on and it turns without binding. Your self-adjusters will finish the job for you as you drive. Worst thing you can do is set initial adjustment too tight as that will burn the shoes before they get a chance to properly break in. Doing it how I said, will avoid that.

Most likely the rear brakes are out of adjustment. Or the emergency brake cables are out of adjustment.

My Hyundai Accent GL is beginning to idle to high, when driving

I think I would seek a different opinion from a shop that has a good reputation. This sounds like 'make-work' to me. We have several shops in our area that are known for doing the same thing! Service costs are high enough with trying to gouge someone. Good luck!

I just got my handbrake adjusted in my hyundai excel. whenever i pull up on a slope it still rolls back with the handbrake on

If the hill is steep or is covered with dirt or sand then you may not have a problem. Did you park there before and it held? Do you use the hand-brake all the time? Have there been times that you forgot to release the parking brake? When the shoes were adjusted were the shoes inspected before the adjustment? The tech. should have looked for problems.

How do i find the ajustment nut for handbrake onhyundai accen

The hand brake on this model can be adjusted from inside the car. Where the handbrake is in the center console, the plastic around it can be taken off. There is a screw on each side that needs to come out, and then from there just pull up, and twist it around and up from the parking brake. Set it aside along with the screws. On the inside you will see what looks like a long gold colored screw, t his is for the tension adjustment. Part of it should have a hex head that you can fit a wrench on. My 03 Hyundai uses a 12mm wrench. Keep turning it towards the passenger side occasionally pulling up on the hand brake to test the tension. Once the tension feels tight but not too tight that's it and you are done. You should be able to pull up on the hand brake about 3-4 clicks and that would be appropriate tension...
