I have a 5-speed 4x4 1991 Ford Explorer. The problem that I am experiencing is that when I put it into ANY gear it will rev, causing me to burn up a lot of gas, but wont go ANYwhere. The fastest it will get up to is about 12 miles an hour no matter which gear I throw it in, end its gotta rev up extremely high just to get where it will move forward (or backwards) at all.

I have a Ford Falcon 2000, I put it into gear and it just revs, unless I rev it really hard which I hate doing cause it eats heaps of my damn gas, then it'll move, this is when I'm going forward or reversing, sometimes it will go back or forward, but jolts first and thats how I know its kicked into gear...finally...its getting worse so I've stopped driving it now I'm car pooling...sux!!! I've taken it to mechanics, 1 said I need an overhaul, dont know what that is but it costs around $2000, another one said its prob the oil, fixed that, same thing, now one just today, said I need a new gear box, he can get me a cheap one for $2500 that doesnt include taking out the old and putting in this new one, labour etc...would buy a new car, but I love my Ford...pls help
