If its time to change the oil drain the oil and replace the oil pan gasket and the drain plug if needed then remove the bolts from the pan and replace the gasket.

Remove drain plug to drain remaining oil. Remove the oil pan bolts and gently pry the oil pan loose. Clean oil pan well. Remove the remaining gasket from pan and where it mounts. Replace gasket and remount oil pan. Add oil and inspect for any further leaks.

I have an 1980 Datsun 280 with a persistent small oil leak from oil pan gasket. What should I try?

Clean the area well with gas or a spray cleaner/degreaser where you know it's leaking from. Since you don't want to go through the proper repair by removing the oil pan to replace the gasket, do this instead. After the area is clean and dry, tighten all the oil pan bolts first. Then get a tube of black RTV and put some on the end of your finger that reaches the spot the best and push the RTV into the area between the oil pan, gasket, and block. Make sure it's well covered to plug the leaky gasket and let the RTV cure. Shortly, your leak ahs been stopped. I personally do this myself to stop that same leak on my Chevy 383 I put in my Motor Home so I don't have to drop the pan. And it works.

Trouble shooting 2009 chev.aveo gearbox leaking oil on pan gasket how do i repair the leak on the gearbox

Determine if it trans fluid(red) or engine oil. If the trans pan gasket is leaking, drain it (By slowly remove the pan) and replace it. Don't use the rubber gasket. Use cork or silicone. If oil, coming between the engine and trans. This would be a rear main seal on the engine. Trans has to be pulled to replace it.

Having an oil leak at the bottom of my camry, not the oil pan gasket what else could it be.

There are three other area's that can leak, here they are in order of how often they occur
1.Engine Valve cover gasket(s) (2 if V6 engine), oil runs down the engine and drips off the pan.
2.Rear crankshaft seal leaking
3.Front crankshaft seal leaking. Oil is blown back by air pressure while driving and rips off of pan.

My 2001 Excursion Diesel is leaking oil from the oil pan gasket. Can I just drop the pan to replace the gasket (with a slight forward maneuvering) or do I have to drop the cross bar directly beneath the...

If it is in fact the oil pan gasket that is leaking, then you would first need to drain out the oil through the oil drain plug and recycle the oil. Then you can remove the oil pan and replace the old gasket with a new one, refill with the proper amount of oil. Then you can run the car and see if it still leaks.
