My jeep gc wont start after the battery went flat ,now it will turn over and a yellow key symbol in a circle with a line through is showing on the dash

It's most likely, looking for a security key, not a regular key. Security keys have a chip in them, to identify them as a valid key, not a screwdriver. It's a passive anti theft device. Available from the dealers.

System operation
System arms after switching ignition OFF. Switch ignition ON. Immobilizer warning lamp illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. If immobilizer warning lamp flashes: Key code not recognised. Engine runs for approximately 2 seconds, then cuts out. System malfunction: Immobilizer warning lamp illuminates continuously.
Programming
When
System malfunction. Key added or replaced.
How
NOTE: Two programmed keys necessary. Complete each step within 15 seconds. Some models: Replacement key can only be programmed using diagnostic equipment.
Obtain all keys to be programmed. Using first programmed key, proceed as follows: Switch ignition ON and OFF within 15 seconds. Using second programmed key, proceed as follows: Switch ignition ON and OFF within 15 seconds. Within 10 seconds: Immobilizer LED flashes. Programming mode activated (acoustic signal will be heard). Proceed as follows: Within 50 seconds: Insert first key to be programmed into ignition switch. Switch ignition ON and OFF. Within 10 seconds: Single acoustic signal will be heard and immobilizer LED stops flashing and illuminates for 3 seconds to indicate correct programming. Repeat complete procedure to program remaining keys. Keys can also be programmed using diagnostic equipment.
NOTE: A maximum of 8 keys can be programmed.
