Most of the autoparts stores have the spring compressor you'll need. Front & rear have a thru bolt on the bottom, then the strut is secured by one nut at the top into the strut mount which should have a few nuts you have to remove.
The dangerous part is the coil spring that has to be removed. It will shoot off of the strut if you remove the one large nut on the top of the threaded strut rod.
This could really hurt someone!!! The pressure on the spring must be removed, before removing that nut and that's done after the strut assy. is off of the car!
You need to remove it completely with the strut mount, leaving the spring installed. Then, following the safety instructions for using a coil spring compressor, you can remove the spring and transfer the reusable parts to the new strut and reinstall. Leave the spring compressed and just go from the one it's mounted on, to the new one and put it in the exact same position. Look at where the spring is before dissasembly on the old strut.
I suggest a manual, there are details, like making sure the spring is turned properly to fit as it did before removal. Removing pressure on the suspension to be able to savely remove the strut without it binding & such.
I've done a complete car myself in a few hours, but I have all of the tools. Sometimes it's difficult without a HD Impact wrench, to get these parts to break loose, especially the nut on top of the threaded strut rod. A pipe wrench can be used to hold the rod on the old part, since it won't be used again and that will secure the rod as you loosen the top nut.
Be careful, follow the instructions in your repair manual. If you don't have one and you're attempting this type of work, you may want to spend a few $$$ just to have illustrated instructions right there for every step. If you know your cars, have a decent set of mechanics tools and the special equipment required for this task, it's not a difficult job.
These gas filled struts have a "U" shaped clip on both ends of the strut. Using a small flat tip screwdriver, pop these clips outward (not all the way out). Lifting the trunk lid slightly will allow you to remove these struts and install the new ones.
Look closely at the old ones, on each end is a metal clip, pry off this clip with a small flat tipped screw driver and the rods will come off the pivot. You must have help to hold the lid as you remove the old rods. To install the new ones just align the pivots up with the pivot holes in the new rods and press them on. Hope this helps Fix Ya up.
it should just be a bolt on the end of the ball you need a thin wrench. or it could be a clip on the older ones that goes over the ball pop iy off with a screwdriver
Raise and support the car safely and remove the front wheels. Undo the clip holding the brake line to the strut. Loosen the bolts holding the strut to the
steering knuckle. Before removing them, remove the strut mount tower bolts
under the hood. Then remove the other bolts, the entire strut assembly
will slide out. You can either install a complete new strut and spring
assembly (more expensive), or you can use a coil spring compressor to
remove the spring from the old strut and install it on a new strut (less
expensive but a lot more work, and you must have access to a spring compressor). Make sure
when installing the spring that it is aligned correctly on the new
strut. Also, you should replace the strut mounts with new ones. Be aware that a compressed spring is very dangerous, so be sure to follow the
instructions for the spring compressor. Re-install the strut assembly.
Make sure that the knuckle bolts and strut mount bolts are torqued to spec.
The trunk lift supports (struts) come fully extended. Install one end of the strut and then push up or open the trunk until the other end of the strut lines up with the ball stud and snap it on. If you cannot open the trunk far enough to line up the ball stud then you have gotten the wrong struts. Hope this helps.
