Can anyone HELP????? radio has no sound or intermittent sound .bmw 5 series 'oo.
You might want to suspect a stereo amplifier. Does your car have DSP? In any case, look in the trunk on the left hand side. You will find your radio amplifier back there. It will have about a 3in connector with a bunch of twisted pair wiring. Remove the connector and make sure there is no water contamination. All sound processing takes place in the amp.
I would still suspect a radio amplifier might be cutting out.I have also seen the electrical portion of igition switches go bad, especially in E39 5series and E38 7 series. The factory monitor is just a display unit and the picture is generated by the factory navigation unit. Sound processing takes place inside the amplifier. If you have a DSP amplifier, they are coded vehicle specific.

to clarify; by radio i mean tv, cassette, sat/nav, cd and radio. they all function correctly except the sound sometimes doesnt work at all. i havent removed anything except replaced dodgy cd changer in attempt to solve this.
Hi Guys
I've developed a problem with the sound on my AV system. It's an E39 5 series with 6 disc cd, sat nav, radio and digital tv tuner with 16:9 widescreen monitor, but recently the sound has become intermittent. All sound disapears a few seconds after turning on the ignition. It can be restored instantly by turning the ignition off and then on again (not reccomended on the M6). It may then be perfect for hours or could just as easily switch itself off again 3 minutes later.
Any ideas? The only common denominator is the monitor as it's the sound from all sources that is affected.
Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

is this happening for everything (indash CD or indash cassette player, radio and trunk mounted 6-disc CD changer) or just the radio?
is it intermittant in volume only or can you see it lose power to the whole unit (radio shuts off and turns back on)?
if only intermittant in volume, does it happen when you increase/decrease volume at the radio or using the steering wheel controls?
have u removed the radio and checkeconnector on the back?
