the fuse is bad for shift lock solenoid. Read owner manual section on brak-shift interlock. Check fuse for nbrake lights. Brake lights work.
Owner manual has emergency by pass procedure. I think you turn key to OFF and then shift to neutral and start car then. Next time in park, you have to repeat.
CHECK FOR BLOWN BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FUSE OR SEE IF BRAKES LIGHTS WORK.IF YES HOLD FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL MAKE SURE TRANSMISSION SHIFT ALL THE WAY IN PARK.IF ALL IS GOOD.SOUND LIKE KEYLOCK CYLINDER BROKEN.IF IT WAS SECURITY THEFT SHUT DOWN YOU WOULD SEE SECURITY LIGHT.AND THE KEY WOULD TURN BUT CAR WONT CRANK.JUMP START CAR AGAIN.IF BATTERY POWER LOW THE BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK NOT GOING TO ALLOW IGNITION KEY TURN IN SWITCH.
Take a look and see if the brake lights are working, the power to release the shift lock comes from the brake switch when you step on the brake the shifter is unlocked. i had a few of these that needed new brake light switches, first try starting the car and stepping on the brake pedal as hard as you can and then try shifting,if this works replace brak switch, next if that doesnt work check the brake light to see if they work if not or if so check all fuses even under the hood fuse box, hope this helps. here a picture of the shift release soleniod it on the steering column, dissconnect and slide by hand to release shifter until repaired.
make sure the brake light switch is mounted and adjusted properly. they have been known in older cars to actually fall out of their mounting hole which in turn makes the brake lights stay on all the time. if it all looks good then it probably needs to be replaced. most new switches are self adjusting so that helps!
my ford taurus did this to me too.... your car wont move out of park because it might be the neutral safety switch because your brake light connector piece might have come undone... now first off the brakes (my switch was above my brake pedal) and just make sure its clipped in and then your neutral safety switch should go of and you can put it into gear. if you cant find the brake thing to see if its unplugged just turn your key slightly on before all your dash lights come on and put the car into neutral and then start your car and you can put it into gear.
