PO441--Evap Purge Valve Incorrect Flow
PO 443,444,445 Purge Control Valve Issues

There was no reason to change the gas cap or
purge control valve

Didn't Google the code & use it correctly to diagnose
the problem

SOURCE: have a p449 code on my 2003 silverado

P0449 and P0455 has to do with the Evap Canister control solenoid which causes a large vacuum leak. I think the replacement part number is 19207763. The part is located back by the fuel tank, mounted to its side.

SOURCE: 2005 chevy colorado runs rough and gets bad gas mileage.

Sounds like it needs spark plugs and wires, and a fuel system treatment.

I had that exact code a couple weeks ago. Mine needed new oxygen sensors. They(there are 2, only one was throwing a code, but I had both replaced) cost a little over $100 to have replaced.

Where is the vapor canister on a 2007 Chevy Impala SS?

Have you changed your fuel cap? That is usually the culprit. If that doesn't solve your issue, a simple smoke test will show you where the system is leaking.

Please help. We have a 2007 Chevy Colorado and we have codes P0443, P0455, P0446, and P0128. We are thinking about replacing thermostat, purge control circuit, and vent control circuit per the codes. But-...

First......clear those codes and see if they return before doing anything.Purge valve is on the vent line from tank to engine ,usually in the engine compartment, and vent valve is on the line from tank to outside air, usually by the fuel tank.Don't change any parts until you check them and their circuits with a good scan tool.

2013 Chevy Impala w/ 71,000 miles with engine light on. Diagnostic codes of P0442, P0455, P0496. Replaced gas cap with another factory gas cap.

Well you were on the right track, but there's more to the system than just the gas cap.
Code 442 is for a small leak, 455 is for a large leak, and 496 is for flow during non-purge. That last code means something was letting air flow in the venting system to the vapor canister when the system should have been closed.
It could be a purge valve or other component.
And it could still be under factory warranty.

Got a PO449 code on an 09 Colorado. AutoZone gave me 4 possible parts so thought I'd start with the least expensive. The purge valve on the engine I couldn't reach. Got another vent/purge valve but can't...

There are two vent/purge valves - one on the engine that takes vapor from the gas tank and cycles it into the intake manifold. The other one is connected by a hose to the vapor canister. I don't know which one you bought, but it can't hurt to replace both - the one that fails most often is the one connected to the canister and is usually mounted under the vehicle at the back. It often fails due to road contamination getting into the solenoid.

P0440 trouble code 98 chevy blazer

This code indicates a leak in the fuel vapor system know as the evap system this can be caused by several things. a faulty purge valve, a vent valve, any one of the fuel vapor lines or even a gas cap that is lose or the seal is bad on gas cap. to isolate the exact problem requires a high end scan tool and a smoke machine to find the problem. on this vehicle the two most common problems are a gas cap, or a bad vent valve

Check engine light came on went to auto zone said it was gas cap. Bought new gas cap. reset engine light. two days later check engine light is back on. what next?

Hi, if the code was P0455, there are other possible reasons. The computer fuel tank pressure sensor has detected a leak which could also be in the vapor canister, or the hose from the canister to the purge valve, or the purge valve itself may be leaking. Please inspect the system for these leaks. I may be able to provide some pics of these parts if you tell me your model, year, and engine info.

Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)
What does that mean? This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
Symptoms You likely won't notice any drivability problems.
Causes A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:

  • A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
  • A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
  • Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system
Possible Solutions With a p0455, the most common repair is to:
  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary

Chevy Colorado - diagnostic says "PO455 Evap Emission Control System Leak" Not sure where to look or fix

Code P0455 means there is a vapor leak in the fuel system, this could be a bad vent valve, a abd purge valve, a charcoal cansistor, gas cap or even one of the lines. this requires a scan tool and a smoke machine to find the leak. but in most cases it is just a gas cap. take off the gas cap and look at the rubber seal, if the seal has small cracks, or the rubber seals looks like it is worn. try replacing the gas cap and clear codes and see what happens

2003 chevy cavalier p440 code

This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer fuctioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of alot of parts, including the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicles fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engin

heres some things you can try
Remove and reinstall

the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
Check and/or replace the sensor
Check and/or replace the purge valve
Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks
