.ok you ether have a stuck thermostat which is keeping the hot coolant from geting to the temp sensor so the computer doesnt know its hot and to tell the fans to come on or the temp sensor is not getting a true reading. I know you are going to say the temp sensor is fine because the gauge reads 220 but there are two sensors one for the gauge located on the driverside head on the side close to the front and one sends a signal to the computer located near the thermostat. I bet if you change the thermostat the problem will be gone..ok you ether have a stuck thermostat which is keeping the hot coolant from geting to the temp sensor so the computer doesnt know its hot and to tell the fans to come on or the temp sensor is not getting a true reading. this does have electric fans. this is a 5.7 not a 5.3 and i had it built for me not off the show room. the fans do work i put a hot wire to them just to make sure it was not the fans. thanks for any help you can give me.this does have electric fans. this is a 5.7 not a 5.3 and i had it built for me not off the show room. the fans do work i put a hot wire to them just to make sure it was not the fans. thanks for any help you can give me.

-Make sure there is full of water (Coolant) in the engine and radiator.
-If it's full but still keep over heat and the fan never turn on when it reach very hot (About 210 to 220*)
If so. Then check the thermostat. it works properly or not when it reach to 175*-180 and up...?
-Here how to test: Remove it from the car and put in a cooking pot
then boil. You need to have a temperature gage. Dip it in and watch. When it reach to 175 to 180 * if the thermostat start to open then it work properly. But if it never open or just little then you need to replace it.
-If it works good then next test the cooling fan switch.
Same procedure but this time you need a voltmeter to check in (Ohm)
-The water need to be above 220* to 230* to be able to
activate the switch ON.
-If No reading at all at 220-230* or more then possibly the switch is not working.
-If it's working then next check the two wire that connect to the switch. It should has 12 volt power there with the key on. If not then the fuse is burn. Check and replace it.
Did you check voltage and ground at the fan connector? Check applicable fuses. Can you check applicable trouble codes? Will the fan turn on, if you turn on the ac?
Some fans may not turn on, till the temp reaches around 220 degrees F, that excludes the ac.
There several issues that could cause the fan not run, another issue could be the coolant temp sensor. Does your temp gage work ok?
Have you checked fuses? If they are good check power to fan. Run car until gage reades in the middle and see if fans engage. Some only run when needed. If this does not work replace fan motor with new unit.
You still have many other components in that system that has to be in working order for the cooling fan to work properly. The cooling fan is turned on when engine temp reaches a predetermined temp, usually around 220-230 degrees F. the ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor siganls the ECM (Engine Control Module) to ground the cooling fan relay or cooling fan module(if equipped) and if the cooling fan fuse is good and the fan has power to it the realy will complete the ground for the fan to run. You may need to have a qualified technician diagnose the problem if the obvious things like fuses and good grounds are not the problem.
check that you have a thermal switch to switch on the fan and not a temp sender unit. One completes the curcuit when a set temp is reached ,the other is a resistance unit that lowers the voltage which in turn reads hotter on the gauge.
Can you jumper the relay to make the fans run ? The computer sends a ground to the relay to power the fans when the coolant temp reaches 220 degrees or when the ac pressure reaches 200 psi on the high side.
Sounds like your cooling fans on the radiator are not working. The fans are activated by a thermol switch on the engine or radiator reading the coolant temperature and an A/C switch. When the coolant is too hot the fans should activate cooling the system down. And, when the A/C is on the fans should also activate in order to cool the condensate so the A/C would work.
When you are driving, the movement of the vehicle throught he air is providing enough air flow to keep things cool and functional.
I would check the radiator fan fuse or fuses first. If those are OK I would try to run the fans with 12 volts and a ground that I supply just to see if the fan motor(s) actually run when powered. If the fan don't run when powered then the fans are bad and will need to be replaced. If the fans do run when you power them manually, then something is not allowing the power to activate, like a relay, control unit, or wiring.
It will take a little diagnostics, but it is not too difficult to chase it down.
CHECK FUSE AND RELAY.IF ALL IS GOOD.HOT WIRE COOLING FAN USING JUMPER WIRES.USING CAR BATTERY.IF FAN RUNS.ITS GOOD.IF FAN DONT RUN.REPLACE FAN ELECTRIC MOTOR.ALSO SCAN IT. TO MAKE SURE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS NOT OPEN.MAKE SURE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND COOLANT TEMPERATURE READS SAME ON SCANNER IF NOT REPLACE THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR. SEE IF COOLANT TEMPERATURE IS BAD THE COOLING FAN OR FANS WONT RUN.
