Was driving down the free way and noticed smoke coming from the muffler. Pulled over and noticed that oil was leaking from under the undercarage on the passenger side. Looked to see if it was the oil filter and could not identify where it was or if that is where the oil was coming from. Checked the oil and it was barely reading on the dip stick. did not drive it. Had it towed to a repair shop.

It has to be either burning it or you have a leak. If you changed the oil and overfilled it a gasket may have blown. try pouring a can of engine stop leak. Maybe it will help.

Before you start removing the oil pan to reseal it, you need to rectify the leak between the oil cooler and the block. Interestingly enough, (in a pinch) the rubber gasket from the (genuine) Toyota oil filter is the same gasket that seals the cooler to the block. Aftermarket filter gaskets will NOT work. Remove the filter, carefully take off the gasket, remove the oil cooler, take off the old rubber gasket, and put the oil filter's gasket onto the cooler, and bolt it all back up. (You should buy this gasket from a dealer) Clean the area real good with cleaner, and THEN check for additional leaks.
Hope this helps, and THNAKS for choosing FixYa. Please feel free to comment back if you need any additional info. The graciousness of a FIxYa rating would be greatly appreciated.

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can access the bolts that secure the mirror onto the door

A dark red or burgundy color fluid most likely means you have a transmission fluid leak.
Warm you car up for 5-10 minutes and check your transmission fluid level while it's running and you will likely find it to be low.

do you know if they replaced the O ring rubber that connects the pipe under the intake Mark?
One of its trademarks is it only leaks after the vehicle sets overnight.

Did you have your oil recently changed?
If so, somebody might have not spun it on tight or made sure that it was well seated, so it leaked.
Rav 4 is pretty reliable. Get a 2nd opinion of you get a more than inspection cost.

Sometimes when you remove the old oil filter the rubber seal stays stuck on the block. Then you put the new filter on and it doesnt seal because it is double gasketed. It just needs refilled cleaned up and started and look for the leak.
