97 tahoe 5.7 350 chugging, jerking, reving rpms intermittant

Truck runs fine one minute the next its chugging and jerking. I can hear misfire during these episodes. Started doing this about a month ago, only when accelerator was past 1/3rd petal. Progresivley got worse, now it does it at all speeds and throttle positions. Engine reves at idle, only sometimes. Replaced distribritor, cap and rotor; did not help. She runs great one minute then this stuff the next. Im lost, any ideas?

The first thing that needs to be done here is to have the engine control module scanned for fault codes, based on the results then move on.

Tranny slipping and chugging

run fault codes and look for a TCM problem. The cat converter has nothing to do with a slipping transmission but dirty / burnt oil and or blocked filter in the transmission will ..Check the oil and if it is not bright cherry red have it replaced along with the filter.

I have a 97 chevy tahoe 5.7 i just did a intake gasket due to the one given out truck ran fine befor i took it a part but now it runs and throws the p0300 code has a slight rough idle

P0300 random misfire, slight rough idle good , by the way your repair is good you dont want a identified misfire, Lets start by what it is not. Not a misposition sparkplug wire you would of gotten that cylinder code, as misfire, Oh try this got carburator cleaner? spray safely along the intake gasket, How about inspecting the vacuum hoses especailly at the map sensor. Here the thing you got. a vacuun leak. on a 5.7 a vacuum leak causes random misfire, by definition P0300 means 2 cylinders or more. By experience its a vacuum leak

Car chugs and jerks like crazy while cruising

Determine whether the jerking is engine or transmission related. One way to determine if it is the transmission lock up converter is acting erratically is to down shift out of OD. And see if jerking persist. If it goes away suspect transmission to have problems with torque converter or TCC solenoid . If it doesn't go away determine whether or not the engine sounds to be misfiring. If so vehicle may require a tune up. Many vehicles can be diagnosed for free at your local Auto Zone.

My 1997 chevy tahoe will not start without starting fluid. I hear the fuel pump running and have changed the fuel pressure regulator already and the fuel filter. The pump is only a year old. Have checked...

IVE HAD PLENTY OF THESE GO OUT EVEN A MONTH LATER. AS FAR AS THE STARTING FLUID JUST TRY AND CYCLE KEY BUT KEEP IT FROM TURNING STATER OVER. TURN ON AND OFF ABOUT 3 TO 5 TIMES IT SHOULD BUILD ENOUGH PRESSURE TO START. TO START MINIMUN PRESS IS 55PSI.

1997 chevy truck running rough

Is this a 5.7? They are notorious for intake manifold gasket leaks. When mine did it, the diagnostics blamed it on an ignition misfire also! Replaced the gaskets and it runs smooth!
