try checking in the manual for any tips or steps,or try contacting a local gm dealer and see what they suggest. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Is Oreilly's a dealer or jobber parts store?

yeah, once the anti-theft light turns on you may have to wait from 3 min. to 10 on other vehicles. This happens due to the ignition switch not recognizing the key, there for setting off the light(alarm). Over time the tumblers inside the switch get stuck or worn out with time. The solution is very expensive because you gotta replace the ignition switch, key lock tumblers and reprogram the key.
Your ignition key has an embedded chip.
If you have a spare, try that, don't use a simple copy that has no chip. You can use that copy for the doors, etc, but not the ignition.
You might turn key "upside down" if you get the same message again.
If you don't have a spare, a locksmith willhave to program a new key for you ($50) at Ace Hardware or True Value. ... Dealer ($80)
Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle
will not start.
Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes
the telltale will turn OFF.
Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
REPEAT STEPS 1 through 4 TWO MORE TIMES for a total of 3 cycles/30
minutes, the vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock™ Sensor Data
Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF
to CRANK.
Turn off the ignition and then attempt to start the engine.
Clear any codes.
If this don't work you will have to take it to a dealer and program it through there computer system.
The theft light issue is a good observation. Have you replaced the key tumbler or an ignition component lately? Has there been a lightning storm close very recently?
What the flashing security light is indicating is an attempt to relearn the key you are using.
Turn the key to run position, allow light to flash for 10 minutes, when light stops flashing turn ignition to OFF position for 5 seconds, turn ignition to run position and start over. Do this for 3 consecutive cycles, the the theft system will relearn the key cylinder code and store it once again.
Try that first before you go any further.
Let me know what you find.
Regards,
Put your key in turn it on dont start wait 10 mins remove key wait 10 seconds repeat this a total of 3 times. If that dont work try a different key do the same thing. If that dont work a dealer needs to probably replace and reprogram your ignition switch and keys
