If you live in an area where its below 20 it would be normal if you want it to start every time just spray some carb cleaner in to the intake

SOURCE: 2004 F350 6.0L starts rough and runs rough until

What tells me, is that the thermostat is staying open after
your done using the truck
When you start it up cold, it takes longer to warm up the area
near the coolant temp sensor, which is part of the system
to put the PCM (computer) into closed loop
Closed loop is when you leave a computer fuel stratagy and
the O2 Sensors take over fuel control

Hard to start----

Need spark plugs that have not been in the motor over 60,000 miles
Spray the throttle plate with CRC Throttle Cleaner
Spray the MAF Sensor with CRC MAF Cleaner
Need all ducting in place,no vacuum leaks and a clean air filter
Make sure your O2 Sensors are tight
A fuel filter not over 3 years old
Hope the coolant temp sensors works correctly

Anything more gets too technical

1985 Ford Ranger 2.3 starts and idles good. But when put in gear dies until it reaches full temp.

Hmm...........
1985..........
Probably carb? Automatic choke not working? Remove air filter and spray carb with cleaner, Make sure all parts move freely. With engine cold, check automatic choke position. Start and check function as it warms up.

My truck when I start it on very cold mornings run rough until you let it run for about ten to fifteen mintues. Then when the weather is warm the truck runs fine. It also has under 69,000 miles.

Count your blessings that it starts. It sounds like the cold air is affecting the idle mixture. Check the hose running from the manifold to the air box to see if it is intact. If not, replace/fix it so that you pull warm air in as soon as the engine heats up.

87 ford ranger wont start without starting fluid

It sounds like you aren't getting fuel out of the cold start injector... remove the injector when engine is cold and switch on ignition... you should get a fine spray pattern for a few seconds... if not then there is probably a problem with the cold start circuit (Temp sensor fault), or the injector is faulty. pull electrical connectors one at a time and look for corrosion... Hope this helps...;-)
