2001 Silverado 2500 HD Why Rear brakes don't work after I installed new hydro-boost power booster, master cylinder, calipers, and pads. I bled master cylinder before installing, and brakes beginn

Brake fluid was contaminated. flushed brake lines. I changed master cylinder, hydro-boost brake booster, rear calipers and pads. I bled master cylinder before installing and bled all brake lines beginning with right rear (furtherest from hydro booster). Took to brake place and they bled on machine. Still rear brakes do not work. Pedal goes to floor and comes back up slowly. Front brakes will finally stop truck

Hello Patricia,

Have you checked the master brake cylinder reservoir for brake fluid loss?

I don't suspect the master cylinder as you have replaced it... but am more suspect of a leaking brake line or fitting which should have
been discovered when you had the system bled.

The only time I ever had a rear brake problem with a 2500 series Chevrolet was due to seized rear brake caliper guide pins...as your calipers are also new that is not your problem.

If your brake pedal feels spongy and travels to the floor board you have air in the system, a brake fluid leak or a failure in the power steering system, such as a broken hose, broken power steering pump drive belt, or failed pump, would result in a loss of pressure to both the hydro-boost and steering.

try bleeding your ABS block first, if that doesn not work could need a master or proportioning vavle. Some scan tools are capable of bleeding the ABS system on some vehicles, and some you have to bleed manually.

I replaced the hydro boost on my 2006 2500 HD. Now the system acts like I have no power assist, then the brakes set up and won't release until the brakes cool off! will bleeding again help?

I suggest you go back to basics and adjust the brake pedal linkage correctly and then ensure there is a small clearance between the fully returned master cylinder piston and the booster push-rod.

The latter check is usually performed with a service tool but if that isn't available some very careful and accurate measuring must be done. In the absence of the manufacturer figure a clearance of about 0.006/0.008 is about right.
Sometimes the push-rod is adjustable and sometimes shims must be added.

2002 chevy silverado 2500 hd with duramax no brake or steering power. do I need to replace or repair hydro booster?

It definitely sounds like the hydro booster. There are videos on YouTube that shows you how to do either. Depending on your skill level will determine which one you do. The main issue is bleeding the air out of the booster. It can be difficult. You will also need to bleed your brakes completely afterward. GMs are notorious for having the hydro boosters die on them.

2005 silverado brakes sticking front only after driving little

I had the same problem and replaced both calipers with no change, I figured it was the master cylinder. When I pulled off the master cylinder I saw the vacume booster had about 2 cups of brake fluid in it which leaked from the front of the master cylinder. I replaced master cylinder and vacume booster and brakes work great now.

I would go with not bled correctly

The booster should hold up with a hard pedal until
you start the engine, then vacuum causes it to move
down when pressing on the brake

Bleed with the car running and make sure all the air is out. Now make sure there is no leak and the pad contact are adjusted without much gap so that the calipers hold on. make sure the servo assist is correct, if so and the master cylinder was set right , it must work. Please recheck all your work once again to trim up.

sounds like your hydro-vac went bad. this is located by your master cylinder inline. it uses your power steering pump to give boost to your brake system instead of a vacumn booster

Need brake help with 2001 Silverado 2500 HD. I replaced both rear calipers and master cylinder cannot seem to bleed the brake system. The pedal will not build up any pressure. Is there something I need to...

There is nothing special that you need to do. You need to make sure that you bleed the brake system starting at the master cylinder FIRST. You also want to make sure that you do not have any more leaks or open lines. Do not turn the car on until the brakes are bled or the air will go into the other circuits. The other thing to look out for is bad brake pads, If these are worn they can cause kind of a spongy pedal.

Bleed right rear, left rear, right front, left front in that order to be sure of good bleed but the brake booster makes it easy to push pedal. Make sure of no leaks from master cylinder. Otherwise brake hoses being soft will also hurt baking quickly.
