I have a 2001 Jimmy and when I come to a stop, and go it gets up to 3000 rpms before it shifts into 1st gear and it jerks into gear then again before it goes into 2nd gear. After that it's fine. It runs great on the expressway but in local traffic it's frustrating because it has no pick up. I recently changed the fuel filter.
The more I learn about these solenoids, the more we can say that these trans shops may have lied to us from the start in stating the need for rebuilds...
Read up on all the different easily replaceable solenoids in the trans...
SHIFT Solenoids,
Kick Downs,
TCC,
And a few others...
If you don't normally get the trans service done on your truck, it will be more prone to damage...
So spend the money in preventative maintenance than to suffer from these headaches and then still spending money to have it repaired, and taken for thousands instead of just barely a $100 bucks worth of solenoids...
Had the same problem on my 2001 GMC Jimmy, but my reverse was also out!!!! Was the transmission!!! But it also did the same thing when starting from a dead stop! Had to rev up the RPMs to get it to shift, but once it got into the higher gears, it drove fine!!!! My mother also had a 2001 GM S-10 with the same problem and it was her tranny as well!!! Hope this is not your problem because it is not cheap........a friendly mechanic charged $1300 to replace the tranny with a used one with lower miles!! He also said that these models of GMs were notorious because the spline gear used in these models were made of a lower grade of metal and were prone to wear out prematurely!!!!! I also first suspected the shift sensor before I talked to a professional!!!!!
