If it only warms up to operating temperature and dies check the EGR Valve. It should be open within 10 minutes or so. If not the engine will die out although it will start after the engine cools down again
I have 99 pontiac grand am and is misfiring the is code p0300 I have already changed the spark plugs and the two coils including the ignition coil cover. The car shacks when you turn it on and it smells like gas from the muffler. Also after a while the cadillac converter turns red from it heating up. Can some help me out?
Hi. I have a 99 Pontiac Grand Am. I've had that problem before. All I did was...whenever the security light would flash...and the car wouldn't start...I would take the key out...and just sit there and wait for about 10 to 15 minutes. Then the red light would stop flashing....and the car would start. That would happen about 2 times a year. Now I'm having trouble getting it to start. It's trying to...but won't turn over. My mechanic put a new computer....but now he doesn't know what is wrong. Please help. Thanks.
Sounds like the ECM is bad. This is a common problem, when the ECM gets hot there is a solder joint that seperates, it makes contact again once it cools down
Either fuel pump, crank position sensor or fuel filter has a problem. Do not change anything till you test and verify or you can spend $$$ for nothing. (I'm right a lot, but can't see your car...if there, I would test, unless a component was obviously broken or fried!!)
Sounds like your battery is on the way out. Have a load test done on battery & voltage check on alternator. If all works well once it starts, I'd bet on the battery, but load test will confirm, which they will do for free usually if your buying the battery from them.
your battery is getting weak from age sounds like to me ..take it and have someone pull a load test on it and see.. but this sounds like an older battery not holding a charge anymore. Jerry and holler if you need more.
