2005 Ford Freestar 4.2L, ocassionaly when driving car will sputter I drove it with scanner plugged in and it started out with 39 psi fuel rail pressure when car sputters even the slightest it jumps to 78 psi and stays there until sputter again then back to 39 psi trouble code is P0193 FRP Sensor High Input does this mean FRP is bad? No fuel in vaccum line!

SOURCE: Fuel rail pressure sensor chkt high input p0193

Mine is on too (MIL, with p0193), 2005 freestar. My dealer can't figure it out for some reason? So I went out and bought a code reader, will fix it myself!
Anyways it can be the fuel pressure sensor (approx $100 for part), the fuel pump, or regulator on the fuel line, not too sure what they are worth, and time for labour? I am currently looking for a test gauge to check the pressure in the fuel line to see if it is pump or regulator or sensor. Hopefully your service guys can run a few similar tests and determine what needs to go.

SOURCE: Fuel rail system pressure too

What is too high? The specification for that vehicle is 35-70 Psi (2.4-4.8 kg/cm2)
What is the data reading on the Fuel Rail Pressure Transducer sensor?
What, exactly, are you trying to fix? Do you have rich oxygen sensor codes?

SOURCE: I'm working on a 2006 E350 with a 5.4L. Lacking

sounds like it could be a cpule things, i would start with replaceing the fuel filter and re-testing if that yeilds no change unplug the fuel presure regulator or if posible temp clap off the return line and check presure again, if it comes up to where it needs to be then replace the regulator. finnaly if none of those things solve it i would be very suspect of your fuel pump modual. good luck! let me know if i can be of further help, please rate my answer take care

SOURCE: how to fix codes p0190 & p0193 fuel rail pressure sensor codes

The two codes are both about the fuel rail pressure sensor. I would check fuel pressure with a gauge first.
If pressure is low try the fuel filter before anything else.

P0193 FORD Description The Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor is a diaphragm strain gauge device in which resistance changes with pressure. The electrical resistance of a strain gauge increases as pressure increases, and the resistance decreases as the pressure decreases. The varying resistance affects the voltage drop across the sensor terminals and provides electrical signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) corresponding to pressure.

Strain gauge type sensors are consider passive sensors. A passive sensor is connected to a voltage divider network so that varying the resistance of the passive sensor causes a variation in total current flow.

Voltage that is dropped across a fixed resistor in series with the sensor resistor determines the voltage signal at the PCM. This voltage signal is equal to the reference voltage minus the voltage drop across the fixed resistor.

The FRP sensor measures the pressure of the fuel near the fuel injectors. This signal is used by the PCM to adjust the fuel injector pulse width and meter fuel to each combustion cylinder.

Our 2004 Ford Freestar 3.9L,V6 is running GREAT. However, we are getting a P0193 check engine code which says it is from Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor High Input. Need help.

As the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor also operates using vacuum you can unplug the small vacuum line and use a handheld brake type vacuum pump. Just make sure to plug the line you removed.
I forget exactly the values you should see, but at the least you should see some changes when increasing or decreasing vacuum.

Well the code is telling what you already know, that the sensor is sending data that is too high. You would need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge and check the accuracy of the sensor.

Getting p0193 code for my 2005 ford freestar se

P0193 is "Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input"
Meaning: Car's computer is reading input voltage from the FRP (Fuel Rail Pressure) sensor as
voltage out of the acceptable range, because the voltage is too above the acceptable range.

assuming you are running gasoline...

check for fuel in the vacuum hose of the FRP sensor after running engine at idle for 2 minutes. if not, check fuel pressure. Check fuel pressure by connecting a fuel pressure gauge to the Schrader
connector on the fuel rail, which you will find under a small (black, usually) plastic protective cap.

If the fuel pressure is indeed too high, your fuel pressure regulator has gone bad.

if fuel pressure is good, check voltage between Sensor connector Vref (Pin#3 LB (light blue)) and
Signal Return (Pin#4 GY/RD (gray/red)), which should be 4.0V-5.5V with key ON.
The acceptable voltage range from the FRP sensor to the car's computer is 4.0-5.5 volts.
What the P0193 code is saying is that the voltage from the FRP sensor is over 5.5 volts,
and therefore it's "High Input."

If voltage from the FRP sensor is bad (out of range high, presumably), then replace the FRP
sensor and reset the OBD-II code.

If the voltage output from the FRP sensor is also good, the car's computer is kaflooey, so
you'd need to replace the car computer (which is costly), so replace the car's computer as a
last resort.

2004 Ford Freestar SEL sputtering, check engine light flickering.

Engine lamp will come on if idle is too low / fuel mixture is too lean or too rich.
A faulty spark plug will cause this also.
