Is there a mileage recommendation for changing the timing chain on a 2001 Honda Civic Lx (4 cylinder automatic)?
Best solution check your maintenance schedule in your book, my 2002 states 60,000 miles for very cold or very warm weather, otherwise normal replacement at 110,000 miles or every seven years.
Also check or replace the water pump at the same time.
It's actaully a timing belt, not a chain. But the mileage recommendation i believe is 60,000 or 90,000 miles.

Thanks for your response. I called the dealer and was able to find out that I have a timing belt, not a timing chain. He said the plugs and tune up didn't need to be done until 105,00 miles. Does that sound correct?
I forgot to ask about the mileage but some sources say the newer vehicles go up to 90,000. MIne has 92,000 so I've been concerned.
The dealer is going to replace the timing belt, water pump, and other drive belts for $650.00. The plugs and tune up have a separate cost of $208.00.
Other dealers were priced higher but had additional services that I couldn't afford right now. One did offer 90 days same as cash with a credit application but it was a higher price also.
