Not getting a spark out of the coil?

The proper procedure is to first check that the coil is getting power to the positive side of the coil with key in on. It must show power.

If the coil has power to it, then check if the controlling device is turning the primary to the coil off and on-this is what the Ignition control module (ICM) does. Or in some cases a "power transistor" is used to control the coil primary (some imports, for instance).

The ecu signals the ICM (or the power transistor) when it wants the coil to deliver a secondary surge through the coil leading to a spark. The ecu (or pcm) must get a signal from the crank position sensor so it knows when to time the spark.
So if no spark, check if coil primary has power, then check secondary coil operation-if no secondary (no spark), possibly bad coil, bad ICM, or missing the crank position sensor signal.

No spark at plugs. Has power to coil

By power to coil do you mean spark comes out of coil tower or only the feed wire to the coil has power ? If only the feed wire has power the coil may be bad. Which engine do you have ?

James what can I do to check coils on ,2003 accord lx 2.4

Not James, but maybe I can help: Under the dash in the fuse/relay box is the ignition coil relay. This sends battery voltage on the black/white wire to all four coils. With key in on, all 4 coils should have power to them on this black/white wire. If no power, check fuse #2, a 15 amp fuse which sends power to the ignition coil relay, and on to the coils when the relay is energized by the ecu/pcm. Only thing else to cause spark is when the ecu/pcm sends a signal to the coil's Ignition Control Module (housed inside each coil assembly), which controls the primary circuit (the black/white wire), and causes high voltage to the spark plugs.

So check the black/white wire to the coils. If power there with key in on, check for spark at a spark plug when cranking the engine over. If power to coils but no spark, possibly a crankshaft position sensor or cam position sensor giving a bad signal to the ecu/pcm. Good luck.

Ford 3.0 no power to coil

The PCM doesn't supply power to the coil's ,it supply's a ground . A fuse supply's B+ power to the coil's . Your vehicle has what is called coil on plug ignition system , a coil for each cylinder . Should have plug wires ,has a spark plug boot . IT is common for these coil on plug system's to fry the driver (transistor) inside the PCM ,if the spark plug gap becomes so worn that the spark can not jump said gap. It shorts inside the coil sending high voltage to the PCM driver . There are video's on youtube showing how to test a PCM driver circuit . Your coil has two wires , one should have B+ voltage an the other goes to the PCM . If your coil fried i look for a short to ground on the control side circuit . This video is for a ford 5.4 l V-8 coil on plug system ,same thing just 2 more coils .

Need to change the coil. Is likely the problem. Sometimes that means replacing the whole coil pack.

I dont have any spark. have power to the coil pack just nothing past that. what to do??

Check the crank shaft postioning sensor. If you are getting power to the coil pack and there is no power coming out of the coil pack the coil pack might be bad or have corrioson between the coil pack and the mount. Thanks

I'm not gettin power through my ignition or to my distributer therefore I'm not getting spark why is this?

Need to look at ignition module since it provides power to primary terminal of ignition coil. If there is no power to the primary coil, then no power to the second coil. If there is no power on the secondary terminal of ignition coil connecting to the distributor then there is no spark at spark plugs. Good luck

No spark runns fine then loses spark wait 10 minutes starts

The spark plugs receives power to spark from coil pack.Check the power at the coil pack and also check the voltage at the coil pack with meter. If the coil pack shows proper power as well as voltage then its fault in spark plugs.Otherwise its faulty coil pack. The coil pack receives power from battery.so also check the voltage of the battery it should be exact 12 volt.
If the battery shows low voltage then the battery needs to be re-charged.
Then check out.
Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.
