89 Honda Accord Car will not shut off

I have an 89 Accord 4cyl 5spd.
Ok, drove to work last night (in the dark) headlight on..Got to work no problem. I shut the car off..No problem..About two hours later a workmate told me my reverse lights were on ( I left the car in reverse when I parked it). I went to the car and found my reverse light were on and so were all my dash lights...The key however was in the off position. I turned the key and the car started no problem but when I turned the key to the off position, the car continued to run. I could remove the key from the ignition and the car kept running. I ended up having to intentionally stall the car using the clutch to shut it down. I then had to disconnect the Positive terminal at the battery to kill power.
I ASSUME I need a new ignition switch but wanted to run this past some experts before I spent the $$..If you agree that it is the Ignition switch, do I need to pull the wheel or is the switch accesabile otherwise? Thoughts??
Thanks!!

Steve

94' honda accord 5spd.Runs well but will die after a short time. Will restart most off the time and keep running for a couple miles then die again.Could it be coil or distributor?

distributor where defintly a big problem in those years that is how they act when the distributor is getting hot and shutting down the car

Headlights work, but not Instrument panel, daytime RL....

If the parking lights do not come on, they do have their own fuse, and it could be bad. This is separate from the brake lights.

But if the fuses are all good, then it could be the headlight switch. Remember the switch does the parking lights separate from the main headlights, so that you can just turn on the parking lights if you want, (Paris style). It is a feature left over from WWII, when Europeans were not allowed to run with full headlights at night, in the cities.

Car wont start after shut off

Probably your distributor cap or rotor, also check the spark plugs and spark plugs wires. This may happen when , after a certain amount of time, the distributor becomes to hot, or the wires, and then a huge resistance is built. Did you notice that on a long distance your car would shut off than you have to let it cool down before it starts back ? On oldder cars it's a pretty common problem.

94 accord ex 5spd problems with speedo.&dash lights

there are two reasonable explanations for this:
vehicle speed sensor is faulty and speedo cable is faulty and bulbs for illumination or illumination switch is faulty but I would lean with all of those its your gauge cluster
or gauge cluster itself has gone out both of these arent that expensive heres some places where you can get cheap replacements
