The carburator has been rebuilt. I have disconnected the connectors on top of carburator while engine is running with no affect.
This could be that the throttle lever is not resting completely aginst the adustment screw, or the choke mechanism is doing the same it's too high. This is a common problem with carbs that have auto choke's.So they all probably need adjusting. The throttle lever opens the butterfly in the barrel of the carb.Check it out. Good luck.
You may have a vacuam hose off somewhere, else adjust the throttle plate stop on the carb where the linkage comes to rest

Vacuum leaks. Check all hoses and intake bolts. Leaking EGR or plugged PCV valve. Air filter plugged. Leaking head gasket. Worn timing chain. Camshaft lobes worn. Valves burned or leaking. Fuel idle control system or sensor. Good luck!

Theres not enough information, sorry cant help you..
SOURCE: idle at 1500 to 2000 rpm
Most likely the throttle body gasket (between the throttle body and the intake manifold) is leaking.

Sure not a problem! I have a '76 Corvette. I use Mid America Motorworks. You may also want to search Ebay. I have purchased a lot of parts from both places, and have never been dissatisfied.
(I was a little skeptical about Ebay at first, but I dealt with those that have Ebay stores, checked their Seller rating, their Feedback score, and posted questions to them. Always got the part I wanted, and pretty darn fast!)
I bought my carpet set, and various steering components from Mid America Motorworks. They send me a catalog about two to three times a year. They have those T-Top gaskets sets for an '81 Corvette. Your Corvette is a C3 like mine.

Sounds like a problem with your choke. It may just need to be cleaned (linkages and all). If the choke doesn't close after reaching operating temperature, the engine will rev high. This indicates a choke stuck in the open position. Also, you may need to look for a vacuum leak if cleaning it doesn't fix it. On a 1981 GM product, I'd expect the vacuum hoses to be stiff and cracking.
